I worked with Sherri in the old WWF. I was on the West Coast Ring Crew and also worked as a House Show Ring Announcer. I worked for the WWF from December 1988-June 1993.
This SPECIAL memory of my friend, Sherri Martel, I wrote in a blog on my MySpace.com Profile at: www.myspace.com/kmichaelporter . I thought you might like to have it in your collection of "SHERRI MEMORIES"!
"Though I am STILL in SHOCK and am GRIEVING the loss of Sherri Martel, I wanted to share just ONE of MY SPECIAL memories of "The Sensational One"!
We...the WWF...were in Spokane, Washington! It was the final night of our tour, just before the Christmas break of 1990 or 1991.
The show was over, and we were preparing to leave for, either HOME or the hotel, before heading home.
Sherri was EXCITED, because she told me that this would be the FIRST time in several years (at THAT time) that she would be spending Christmas with her SON!
I was SO HAPPY for her! I told her that I was SO GLAD and HAPPY that she would be spending Christmas with her family!
With THAT, Sherri looked at me, smiled that SPECIAL, "Sherri Martel" SMILE, gave me a BIG hug and kissed me on the cheek and then said something SO SPECIAL to ME, that I've ALWAYS remembered it, and I ALWAYS WILL remember it! She said to ME, Michael Porter..."Baby...YOU ARE MY FAMILY TOO!"
I was SO touched at her act of KINDNESS towards ME that night, that I just stood there and wept...UNASHAMEDLY...right there in the locker room! And...I didn't care WHO saw me!
But several of the boys and girls there that night, came up to put their arms on my shoulder or around me and wished me a Merry Christmas and a SAFE trip home...because I had a 600 or 700 mile DRIVE home the next day, because I was in charge of the ring on that tour, and was driving the Ring Truck back home to Sacramento, CA. from Spokane.
But...it was Sherri Martel who made my LONG drive home MUCH SHORTER, with her act of GENUINE KINDNESS and CARING!
GOD BLESS YOU, Sherri! And REST IN PEACE, MY FRIEND!
Michael Porter"
Bill...I HOPE that you can use this SPECIAL memory from someone who got to know Sherri Martel in both a Professional and a Personal way! She was ONE-OF-A-KIND!
THANK YOU for taking the time to read MY MEMORY OF SHERRI
