May 8th, 1981 In the heat of the battle for professional wrestling supremacy
in Japan between Antonio Inoki's New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Giant Baba's All
Japan Pro-Wrestling one of All Japan Pro-wrestling's biggest stars, Abdullah
the Butcher suddenly appeared on New Japan Pro-Wrestling's show. Also on the
card were New Japan foreign stars, Hulk Hogan, Stan Hansen, Bobby Duncum and
Chris Adams.
In attendance at the show were Vince McMahon Sr. with his wife Juanita
and my travel agent from Florida traveling on a trip with United Airlines, my
future wife Marti.
The most excitement or as we would call it today, the "Pop of the Night" was
the introduction of Abdullah the Butcher. Abdullah had "Jumped" from All
Japan Pro-Wrestling in the heat of the wrestling war to New Japan
Pro-Wrestling. The "Jump" by Abdullah the Butcher caught Japanese wrestling
fans and the wrestling world by surprise.
By coincidence, Marti was staying at the same hotel (Keio Plaza) in Tokyo as
the wrestlers and attended the show that night. She met Vince McMahon Sr. and
his wife Juanita. They had traveled all the way to Tokyo for this special
event.
With the "Jump" by Abdullah the Butcher, New Japan Pro-Wrestling with its
association with WWF would be perceived as the number one wrestling company in
Japan
unless All Japan Pro-wrestling could counter with an equally daring and
aggressive assault on the talent of New Japan Pro-wrestling.
July 3, 1981 - Tiger Jeet Singh suddenly ran in for an appearance on All Japan
Pro-wrestling
August 20, 1981 - Chauvo Guerrero jumped from New Japan to All Japan.
August 21st, 1981 - Kim Duk and Dick Murdoch jumped from All Japan to New
Japan.
To regain recognition as the number one wrestling company in Japan, All Japan
Pro-Wrestling must steal a New Japan Pro-wrestling superstar, a "Big Star."
