I know that conventional wisdom of TNA fans is that TNA puts on a better wrestling product then WWE does but if you look deeper than the surface it is not as cut and dry as TNA fans would have you believe. I know that most TNA fans like to say that the quality of wrestling is better on TNA Impact or on PPV but has one really looked into the extenuating circumstances that surround each promotion. I think that fans of TNA really do not give enough credit to WWE and their wrestlers and it is quite a shame that fans of TNA feel that way. I take nothing away from the great athleticism of TNA wrestlers but how does one say that TNA is even on the same level as WWE when the promotions are so very different.
TNA wrestlers only wrestle for TNA about two to three times a month due to Impact being taped, and in most cases two weeks at a time.WWE wrestlers however wrestle over 300 times a year. Sure it is easy to say that TNA wrestlers put more effort into their matches then some WWE wrestlers but that is not taking in to account the amount of abuse that WWE wrestlers are putting their body through on an almost nightly basis.Conceivably, TNA wrestlers could wrestle for the Impact TV show and then take week off, contractually speaking they do not need to wrestle Indy shows, whereas WWE wrestlers wrestle then get in a car and drive to the next town for that nights show.
I am not taking anything away from TNA wrestlers nor am I giving WWE wrestlers a free pass but you have to take into account why the two companies are so different. Raw and Smackdown are both TV shows that are entertainment based so the wrestling becomes almost secondary.WWE does nothing but wrestle at house shows because the camera is not rolling.TNA does not put on house shows so all wrestlers go at about 110% so that they can show off their skills on national TV.I do not feel that there is anything wrong with giving the boys a slight rest on TV as long as there is enough wrestling per show, which is something that is slightly lacking on Raw.
I may not be a big fan of TNA but that does not mean I would like to see it go away. What I would like is for TNA fans to look at things more democratically then they currently do. When I write a column such as this I get many different responses from fans and the TNA fans really say things at times that make me wonder if they look beyond the reality of things. Such as fans of TNA or even some columnists saying things like TNA is beating WWE because Impact outdid Velocity in the ratings on Spike TV. How the hell does someone compare an A-level show to a B-level show and think that is even comparable?
To hear someone like Christian say that TNA is more wrestling focused than WWE is laughable because what else would TNA be since it has only one hour per week to showcase themselves.WWE wrestles each brand about four times a week ,two TV shows and one sometimes two PPV’s a month. Someone like AJ Styles or even Christian could wrestle once for Impact and have close to the rest of the month off until the next PPV.If that were me of course I would go balls to the ball knowing I had ample time to rest before my next match. Yes I know Styles wrestles more than that but he would not have to if the pay was better I assume.
I know that readers of this column may get upset that I am so pro WWE but for God’s sake why does everyone think that it is the end of the world when WWE does something or pushes someone that is not what a small group of fans like? After watching an emotional show like Raw on Monday and having to say goodbye to a wrestling great like Eddie Geurrero it just shows that being in professional wrestling is not an easy lifestyle.WWE wrestlers have to put their body through so much that it may be easy to use things to help ease the pains and aches. To say that WWE wrestlers do not try to put on great matches or that they are lazy is just idiotic.
I know that fans like to rip WWE about the Christian situation and losing what is perceived as an underutilized talent but there are many wrestlers right now that are coming through the WWE system that deserve chances as well. Fans complain that Christian is so much better than say Masters or Carlito but look at the timetable. Christian took eight years to get where he is so who is to say that these other wrestlers will not achieve that same success as Christian when they are seven or eight years in? I know that it gets discouraging to some but let us see in five years who is where and how successful either is.
Bottom Line:
Wrestling is a tough business and it is not fair to say that anyone works harder than someone else because as far as I am concerned all wrestlers work very hard to get where they are. I just want to send my deepest condolences to the Geurrereo family and say that we have lost one of the greatest wrestlers of all time last Sunday. We need to cherish these wrestlers who put their health and well being on the line every week just to entertain us .Raw was one of the hardest shows to sit through Monday and we need to appreciate the fact that we get to watch these world class athletes every week.
I know that WWE is in a state of flux right now and losing both Christian and Eddie in the same week on the same show is very difficult but let us see what they do to turn things around. I have said this a million times but if there ever was a valid reason to end the brand extension it is now. Seeing some of those great matches on Raw showed just what could be but will not if never given the chance. I just want to end by saying God bless Eddie Geurrero and may you rest in peace. You have just read another chapter of the Forzese Files and as always feedback is greatly appreciated.
