This week Get in the Ring Radio welcomed Justin Credible to the show. He
stayed for 43 minutes and answered all questions, check out the archived
interview at www.getinthering.tv. GIR airs Sundays at noon Eastern 1240 AM
WGBB in NY/NJ and live at www.getinthering.tv D’lo Brown joins the show this
Sunday.
-Justin Credible joined the festivities of GIR Radio and talked about his
affiliation with XPW. He is excited to have an official match with Shane
Douglas, but loved kicking him the face and hitting him with a chair during
his first appearance. He likes getting back to the “extreme” style that XPW
is presenting. He feels it’s light years ahead of where ECW was during it’s
first few years of existence. ECW didn’t have the resources or production
values that XPW has now during its “relaunch”. Credible says the talent
that involved is much better then what ECW “first had”. “I think this is
going to go, my career is banking on it…I better believe it’s going to go”.
Respects Rob Black and Shane Douglas as intelligent people, also mentions
Raven coming aboard.
-Justin’s phone has been “blowing up” since he’s become a free agent. He
was surprised because he thought his market value went down “after that
crappy stint in the WWE”. Phantom says he loved X-factor, to which Justin
said he recently spoke to Sean Waltman who agreed if they were given half a
chance the angle could have gotten pretty big. Sir Adam makes fun of their
entrance music to which Justin replies, “Hey, Uncle Cracker is a friend of
mine!” Sir Adam tries to back peddle saying “I guess the song wasn’t right
for a wrestler”. “There were a lot of reasons why it didn’t work, and it
had nothing to do with me and X-Pac”
-On his choice of dumping the jean shorts, HHH mentioned something about
losing the look. And Credible agreed and chose to “look more like X-Pac,
hindsight 20-20 I would have done a lot of things differently”. “They
pulled the reigns back on me big time, I wouldn’t have changed my outfit. I
went there with a sense of respect to the locker room and the boys because I
started there when I was 19 years old. I went in there way too timid for
where I’ve been and what I’ve accomplished. I am a nice guy out of the
ring, and let that get me because I wasn’t aggressive enough in getting what
I needed, as far as backstage stuff. I didn’t assert myself the way I
should have.” When asked if HHH has as much power behind the scenes that
the Internet has reported, and if he could have used his friendship to get a
better spot, Credible says “I think so, I never went that route, I always
believed I could do it on my own steam. I hate to be labeled a kiss-ass, I
was friends with Hunter when we were on the same level and he was doing the
bow. He was no big deal, we were both on the opening match, and I didn’t
want to go there. It’s not like I’m too good to kiss ass, I’m just not good
at it.”
-Justin was so miserable in the WWE he thought of quitting the business.
“The politics up there, it just ate me alive, I couldn’t do it I just couldn’t do it”. He calls himself a “dumbass” for never going to college and
“putting all my eggs in one basket, I was 29 years old and felt my whole
world was crumbling”. He hasn’t watched wrestling in almost a year,
“because it makes me sick to my stomach, because I know what some of these
guys are doing, I could do and do it better”. “I don’t put the blame on
them, I am responsible for my own actions, but at the same time I wasn’t
allowed to be Justin Credible that everyone saw in ECW.” “The politics
took the fun out of it, it became 9-5, you’d think I was going to go to a
factory or dig a ditch outside”. When he was fly all over the country away
from his family “to be on the bench, yeah it’s a good paycheck but sometimes
life is more about getting a paycheck.” He found himself getting into
arguments with his wife, and missing his baby.
-Justin is most proud of his Judgment Day 2001, tag team gauntlet match with
X-Pac. In the same night they faced the APA, Hardys, and then Benoit and
Jericho. “We were the glue that held that match together, because we were
in there for the longest period of time”. He feels he always had the best
chemistry with Matt and Jeff.
-Justin agrees with the Phantom that Stephanie McMahon is “way hot”. And
that she grew on Phantom, Justin says, “She’s got a good personality, I got
no smack to talk about her”. If HHH and Steph tie the knot, Justin doesn’t
think he’d be invited to the wedding.
-Justin confirms that he and Jeff Hardy were infamous for getting to the
shows late. “That’s one of the things I’m most proud of, if you were just a
little different from everyone else, you are labeled a lot of things”.
Justin claims that he and Jeff were in the same mental state, where Jeff was
getting burnt out and Justin was frustrated. “We just withdrew a little
bit, and didn’t hang out with all the guys at the bars, because that’s not
my deal, and my wife wouldn’t be too pleased”. Because they are both into
music Jeff and Justin would bring their guitars on the road and play music
in the hotel rooms together. “Jeff’s just misunderstood, he’s the most
normal person I know”. Phantom asks where Jeff gets his body paint
“Wal-Mart at 2:00 in the morning, that’s another thing we did”. He calls
playing guitar very therapeutic when they were on the road, “and you could
just sit there and bury everyone else on the crew”. Feels the entire thing
was blown out of proportion. When asked if he feels he got the brunt of the
punishment for being late over Jeff, “I got to a point when I wasn’t trying
my hardest, I wasn’t training like I should have been or focused in the in
ring stuff…But if I was to fire Justin Credible or Jeff Hardy I’d fire
Justin Credible too”. Says he’s happy now, and that he gets along with his
family better than he’s had in months, “everything is falling into place, I
am really happier then I was six months ago”.
-On going to college, “Financially I’m ok, but I don’t ever want to be put
in a position where I can’t provide for my family. When I first got that
call I was scared, I ain’t gonna lie”. He’s attending classes right now,
saying since he’s not traveling all the time he’s got the time to do it.
Justin got a call from Johnny Ace informing him that he was let go from the
WWE, and thought it was a blessing in disguise, because “I would have been
too scared to make the move on my own”.
-Justin agrees with people who called his Aldo Montoya mask a “jockstrap”.
“In 1994 the WWE had a creative team who would create new and upcoming
talent and they created such wonderful hits such as Mantaur, the Goon, Aldo
Montoya, and for some trivia Montoya was originally supposed to be a soccer
player”.
-When in the WWE he always heard Paul Heyman talking about reforming the
Impact Players, but he never thought it was actually happen. He says that
the Impact Player pose was a Kevin Nash/ Shawn Michaels tribute. He used to
hang out with the Clique during his first WWE run, because he was a huge fan
of Shawn Michaels because “he looks cool, he gets the chicks I wanna be like
him”. He mentions both Shawn and Scott Hall being really cool to him, “they
tried to smarten me up, I don’t consider myself a member of the Clique I
wasn’t powerful enough, I certainly consider them friends”. He confirms the
story where he brought Scott Hall to an ECW show in Orlando, and Shane
Douglas refused to let Hall into the building. He sees it from Shane’s
perspective because he had heat with Hall, “there were some words and Scott
just left. It was interesting if you were a wrestling fan it made for good
legend”.
-On his relationship with Paul Heyman: “I don’t have one with him. The
relationship wasn’t the same, then again business is business. There’s
certainly no heat, I think I pissed him off somewhere though. I think he
had bigger toys to play with when he got to WWE, I think I was a big fish in
a little pond in ECW.”
-Justin felt uncomfortable during the Tommy Dreamer angle in ECW where they
brought up his recently deceased grandfather. Justin says that Tommy was
the one who came up with the idea. He thinks that Dreamer has a great mind
for the business and hopes the WWE gives him the chance to shine in the
creative department. He puts over Tommy as the first guy who saw something
in Credible when no one else did “He’s a good dude and deserves any break he
gets”.
-He only had one shot in XPW so far, but liked what he’s seen. “It gave me
an old-school ECW feel, it was positive”. 2 big shows in Los Angeles with
Shane Douglas vs. Justin Credible as well as in Pittsburgh check out
www.xpwrestling.com for more info. “Rob Black has a hell of a business
plan, he’s not just some mark with some money.” Talk turns to an intriguing
mach signed for Pittsburgh with Jerry Lynn vs. the Juice, Credible calls
Lynn “Scary Good”. He said it’s driving him crazy dealing with other Indy
promoters, “This one dude wanted me to fly in a day early for no reason just
to go out and have dinner with him. I feel like he was paying me to be his
friend.” Says his recent booker has some heat with him for setting that
shot up.
-Credible trained with the Hart Brothers in 1993, then returned to his
hometown of Connecticut. He ran into “squash talent” in a gym and began
wrestling squash matches, until the WWE wanted to expand into European
markets and was looking for some who spoke Portuguese. Then Credible was
under contract from 1994-1997 with the WWE as Aldo Montoya.
