THIS WEEK IN WRESTLING FOR 9/10/04 BY JOEY STYLES
WWE RAW DIVA SEARCH GETS WORSE
The WWE Diva hopefuls competed in arm wrestling which is an athletic event and, as such, bears some relevance to pro wrestling. However, WWE continued to embarass themselves by having the winner throw buckets of chili on the losers. This just exemplifies how lowly WWE views their own female performers.
WWE SMACKDOWN SETS BOX OFFICE RECORDS IN AUSTRALIA
WWE drew over 4 million dollars U.S. in ticket and merchandise sales in only three nights while in Australia. I sincerely hope that the undercard talents with annual salaries of $75,000 ($375 per night) get a decent check for these shows. I would hope that WWE would pay these poor guys at least $10,000 each for a record setting tour like that. In fact, I will try to find out how these "superstars" were compensated for flying half way around the world and setting box office and merchandise sales records.
PAUL HEYMAN ONCE AGAIN JOINS WWE CREATIVE TEAM
While internet fans think this is a great idea because most of them feel Paul Heyman is a genius, it actually means the McMahons will try anything to improve their suffering creative process. I make this statement because Vince McMahon simply does not like or respect Paul Heyman.
The reason Paul has been on and off and on TV as well as on and off and on the creative team has nothing to do with a lack of talent. His combined skills as a writer, manager and color commentator are unequalled by anyone WWE has ever employed. However, the reason Paul keeps disappearing is his inability to yield to authority of any kind, including that of Vince McMahon. Paul's self-destructive rebellious mentality simply will not work in WWE.
When Vince McMahon tells you what to do, where to do it and what time to do it, you just do it instead of constantly being late and then lying why you are late. Vince McMahon will not stand for excuses like "the entire road in front of me buckled" or "someone on my flight removed the emegency exit door and threw it down to the tarmac". I am not making these stories up. These are actual Paul Heyman excuses for being late to editing sessions while I was with ECW. You can get away with that insane behavior when you own your own company and don't have to answer to somebody else. After all, what's the worst that can happen besides you and your company both go bankrupt?
Vince McMahon keeps Paul Heyman employed for two reasons; Paul is working off a monetary debt to WWE and Vince McMahon does not want Paul working elsewhere in pro wrestling where he may hurt WWE. Paul's latest tour of duty on the WWE creative team will not last long...bet on it.
I realize this will be an unpopular column with online wrestling fans but it is a harsh truth and you will not find anyone credible to dispute what I have written.
