JAPAN NOTES
Jushin Liger, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Manabu Nakanishi, Osamu Nishimura, El Samurai and Masayuki Naruse signed new deals with New Japan Pro Wrestling. AKIRA, Ryushi Yanagisawa, Hiro Saito and Masahito Kakihara did not sign new deals. There will be no problem for these guys finding bookings with other companies. Kakihara is an interesting name since he jumped from All Japan to New Japan awhile back. The media is playing up that Masahiro Chono has yet to sign a new deal with New Japan.
Kensuke Sasaki should be working for New Japan on 2/1 in Hokkaido, teaming with Genichiro Tenryu against Yuji Nagata and Manabu Nakanishi.
New Japan ran 1/24 in Owkinawa, drawing an announced 4,000 fans at the Okinawa Prefectural Budokan with Hirooki Goto beating Akiya Anzawa....Tatsutoshi Goto beat Toru Yano....Tiger Mask beat Wataru Inoue....Jado & Gedo beat Jushin Liger & Ryusuke Taguchi....Osamu Nishimura beat Blue Wolf....Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Yuji Nagata & Manabu Nakanishi fought. Shinya Makabe, Yutaka Yoshie & Hiroshi Tanahashi went to a 30 minute draw....IWGP Junior Heavyweight champion Heat defeated Katsushi Takemura.
The WMF promotion, which featured Hayabusa as their central figure, will be shutting down in February. World Japan, which was thought to be dead, announced they would be running in March, so we'll see.
Samurai TV will be airing clips of the Ring of Honor and River City Wrestling events featuring All Japan stars from their weekend tour of the United States this past December on 1/27. There is talk of All Japan and ROH working together again this spring.
It's been reported that Pro Wrestling NOAH will send Naomichi Marufuji to Osaka Pro's J Cup tournament.
IWA Japan announced Steve Williams, Tommy Rogers, The Big Bossman (who's deal with WWE recently expired, but probably can get a new position there anytime he wants it), Mike Rotunda, and Bobby Fulton for their 3/12-3/17 tour. Rogers and Fulton will reunite as The Fantastics, which was an awesome tag team in the 1980s. They also have a Leatherface and a Freddy Krueger on the tour, but I'm not sure who is playing the roles.
In what is a major story, All Japan Pro Wrestling announced it would no longer run events in what was traditionally considered their "main event Arena", Budokan Hall in Tokyo. The promotion will run a final date there on 2/22. The move is being made to save the promotion money. Upcoming lineups for All Japan features:
