Tonight on NXT, the show begins with a highlight video featuring Shinsuke Nakamura’s rematch with Samoa Joe in Osaka Japan that saw Nakamura regain the NXT Championship. The video then shifts to Joe demanding his rematch. The rematch was granted for December 8th in Melbourne, Australia inside a steel cage. A graphic appears that says that match will be featured on tonight’s episode of NXT coming up next!

Tom Phillips and Corey Graves are on commentary for what is billed as the final encounter between Joe and Nakamura.

Joe makes his entrance first in his usual no-frills style. Nakamura chants echo through the arena as he makes his entrance.

Match 1: Steel Cage Match for the NXT Championship: Shinsuke Nakamura (Champion) vs. Samoa Joe-taped at Margaret Court Arena, Melbourne Australia, December 8th 2016

A cautious approach is employed by both men to start things. They appear very reluctant to even touch each other. When they finally do lock horns, Nakamura uses Joe’s overzealous approach against him and gains the early edge with a knee strike then puts Joe to the mat. Joe quickly battles back by escaping an arm bar and slamming Nakamura into the cage. The show takes what an unexpected commercial.

We return and find in a dominant control position. Nakamura catches Joe with a kick to the side of the head and follows up with knee strikes to try and get back in it. Shinsuke tried to end it with the Kinshasa but Joe turned it into a power slam for a near-fall. Both men trade shots in the middle of the ring then, Nakamura attempts a kick that Joe ducks and turns into the Coquina Clutch. Nakamura escapes the move and nails a charging Joe with a well-placed knee to turn the momentum again.

Nakamura nails Joe in the side of the head but only gets a two count. Nakamura tried to climb the cage but Joe meets him and sets up for the muscle buster that Shinsuke was able to block with help from the cage. Nakamura executes a massive power bomb to Joe. With Joe on the mat, Nakamura performs a wicked Kinshasa from the top rope. “This is Awesome” chants are coming from everywhere but Nakamura is down and unable to cover. The match finishes with Nakamura refusing to exit the cage and instead flooring Samoa Joe with two more Kinshasa’s for the three count.

Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura

The first round of the number one contender tournament takes place and the graphic is put up with the matchups is shown. There will be four matches and the winners will take part in a fatal four-way to crown a new number one contender. The first qualifying match is Tye Dillinger against Eric Young. That match is next as the show heads to break.

We return to find ourselves back in Full Sail and welcomed by our new broadcast table of Tom Phillips, Corey Graves, and Percy Watson. They focus on the women’s division taking us back to the six-woman match from three weeks ago. Graves gives us the blow-by-blow that saw Daria Berenato hung out to dry by Peyton Royce and Billie Kay.

Royce and Kaye are interviewed in the back and asked about their plan to run the women’s division and just how they will do that after the loss. They make it clear that the loss went to Berenato and not them. Berenato interrupts and says that she no longer wants to be part of their plans; instead she wants to hurt either Kaye or Royce next week. She leaves leaving the two Australian ladies to ponder their fate.

In the arena, Tye Dillinger makes his entrance. Eric Young makes his entrance with the rest of Sanity.

Match 2: Number One Contender Qualifying Match: Eric Young (with Sanity) vs. “The Perfect Ten,” Tye Dillinger

Eric Young starts off throwing fists to try to gain an advantage but Dillinger turns it around and gives right back to Young. Dillinger is able to jump on a fallen Young in the corner and adjusts his kneepad for what looks like a solid strike. Sanity member, Alexander Wolfe hops to the apron to provide a distraction and gets a fist to the face for his trouble. Dillinger was returning to a dazed Young when Sanity member, Nikki Cross jumped on Dillinger’s back to cause the DQ.

Winner: Tye Dillinger advances.

Sanity tries to rush Dillinger but Dillinger is able to send Sanity falling to the outside. Then, out of nowhere, Damo attacks Dillinger from behind in his Sanity audition take two. He leaves Dillinger in a heap to end the segment.

A Fatal Four-Way Graphic airs that puts Dillinger in the match. The next qualifying bout will be Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. No Way Jose. We go to commercial break.

Jose makes his entrance followed by Andrade “Cien” Almas.

Match 3: Number One Contender Qualifying Match: No Way Jose vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas

The two men begin with a series of reversals. Almas gets shoved into the ropes but lays between them and strikes a pose. When Jose attempts the same pose, Almas gets upset and charges Jose but gets caught with a flapjack slam for his trouble. Jose hits a senton and a leg drop then tries a pin but Almas kicks him off after one.

Almas turns up the aggression and takes control with a sliding dropkick to the head. A pin attempt only gets Andrade a two count. Jose starts throwing back with the hard double axe handle shots to the chest. Andrade ducks the big right from Jose only to get caught with the pop-up right for a near fall. Jose set up Almas for the move again but Andrade escapes and plants Jose with the hammerlock DDT for the win.

Winner: Andrade “Cien” Almas advances

The Fatal Four-Way graphic is updated and the next match up is Elias Samson taking on Roderic; Strong. The show goes to commercial.

Back in the arena, Elias Samson makes his entrance complete with a song. Roderick Strong is out next.

Match 4: Number One Contender Qualifying Match: “The Drifter,” Elias Samson vs. Roderick Strong.

The match begins with Samson jumping on Strong. Corey Graves is at the desk wanting someone to keep Samson from singing ever again. Meanwhile, Samson tosses Strong across the ring. Samson tries to hold his advantage but Strong asserts himself with a well-timed duck and a leg lariat to Samson. Strong tries for a pin but Samson kicks out at two.

Samson is able to come back driving Strong to the ropes and snapping his arm between the ropes. Samson begins to focus his attack on the head and neck of Strong by hanging him in the corner and cranking back on Strong’s head. Samson followed by bouncing Strong’s head off the apron and connecting with a running knee to the temple.

Samson put Strong in a rear chin lock and that proved to be a mistake as Strong was able to escape and turn the tide by quickening the pace. Strong was able to hit Samson with a running knee in the corner, a gut buster off his shoulders, and finish it with a rolling boot to the face for the three count.

Winner: Roderick Strong advances

The Fatal-Four Way graphic adds Strong and the final qualifying match is announced, as Bobby Roode will face off against Oney Lorcan. In addition, next week, Daria Berenato gets her wish and will face off against Billie Kay.

Oney Lorcan makes his entrance. Bobby Roode makes a Glorious entrance.

Match 5: Number One Contender Qualifying Match: Oney Lorcan vs. Bobby Roode

Roode takes early advantage with an arm bar and talks with the crowd. Roode takes down Lorcan and does a nice amateur ride. When he’s finished, Roode does the Glorious pose causing Lorcan to clock him with a European uppercut. Lorcan nails Roode with a nice back suplex and tries for a quick pin but Roode escapes at the two count. Lorcan hits another suplex as the crowd chants for him. A cover gets a near-fall on Roode.

Lorcan sets Roode on the top rope looking for a possible back suplex from there but Roode fights him off causing Lorcsn to fall and hang his throat across the top rope. Roode pounces on Lorcan. Roode sets Lorcan for a back breaker but Lorcan reverses into backslide for a near fall. Lorcan follows up by hitting a dazed Roode with a European uppercut. Lorcan takes control over Roode with some nice running offense and finished with a running neck breaker for a near-fall. Lorcan tries for a flying neck breaker off the top rope but misses and Roode turns that mistake into a spine buster. Roode announces and dispatches Lorcan with the “Glorious” DDT.

Winner: Bobby Roode advances

The Fatal-Four-Way bracket is completed and that match will be next week. Bobby Roode celebrates his win to end the show for this week.
