WHAT HAPPENED, THIS WEEK, @ RAW

Posted July 27th, 2016 by jshannon

The new and improved RAW saw quite a few debuts, including a new championship and a new champion.

I want to thank you all for joining me and Lottie, last night, for Battleground. Lottie isn’t with me, this evening, but sends her best to one and all.

We are in Pittsburg and we have a new announce team: Byron Saxton, Michael Cole and Corey Graves (replacing JBL). Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley stood in the ring. Mick asked the entire Raw Roster to come out on the stage. Stephanie had full confidence in Mick to run tonight’s show. Mick set up two Fatal Four Way Matches. The winners of those matches will fight in the main event. The winner of that match will battle Seth Rollins, at SummerSlam, for the brand new WWE Universal Championship. (I so saw this coming).

The 8 men involved will be:

Roman Reigns
Sami Zayn
Finn Balor
Kevin Owens
Cesaro
Rusev
Sheamus
And
Chris Jericho

Cesaro vs Rusev vs Finn Balor vs Kevin Owens
Fatal Four Way Match #1

The Finish:

Owens rocked Cesaro with a Superkick. He then stunned Rusev with the Cannonball. Balor used a Running Dropkick to send Owens crashing into Rusev, in the corner. Balor laid out Owens with the Sling Blade. He then hit another Running Dropkick, this time on Rusev. He finished off the Bulgarian Brute with the Coup de Grace (Warrior’s Way Double Stomp).

Your Winner (Advancing): Finn Balor
Raw Rating: 4.0 out of a possible 5

Nia Jax vs Britt Baker

This was Jax’s debut. Nia dropped Britt and hit a Corner Splash. Nia put Britt in the Sullivan Tree of Woe. Nia nailed a Running Hip Attack, in the corner. Nia hit a Leg Drop but did not take the three count. She wanted to punish her poor foe. Nia nailed another Leg Drop to end this serious squash.

Your Winner: Nia Jax
Raw Ranking: 1.0

Sasha Banks was interviewed about her title match against Charlotte. Sasha knew Charlotte has been ducking her, for some time. Sasha said she would become champion, tonight, and there was nothing that Dana or Charlotte could do about it.

Vhris Jericho vs Sami Zayn vs Roman Reigns vs Sheamus
Fatal Four Way Match #2

The Finish:

Roman laid out Sami with the Superman Punch. Jericho tried for the Code Breaker on Roman but Reigns blocked it. Roman then hit Jericho with a Superman Punch. Jericho caught Roman with the Code Breaker as Roman went for the Spear. Jericho, for some odd reason, decided to go for a Spear. Roman Leap Frogged Chris and showed Jericho just how to hit a Spear.

Your Winner: Roman Reigns
Raw Ranking: 3.25

New Day were out to celebrate 337 Days as champion. Xavier sent it to a video package about New Day’s greatness. New Day find a guy in the audience and bring him into the ring. He keeps saying his name is Sonny Boy. As New Day accepts this guy as being Sonny Boy, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson attack. They throw out Kofi and Xavier and then lay out Big E with the Magic Killer.

Curtis Axel vs Neville

They call Axel “Mr. Irrelevant”. He takes exception at that new nickname.

The Finish:

Neville rocked Axel with a Back Heel Kick. Neville hit the Dead Lift German. Neville positioned Axel with a Belly to Back Suplex. He quickly followed it up with the Red Arrow. I just feel so bad for Axel. He deserves much better than this.

Your Winner: Neville
Raw Ranking: 1.5

In one of the silliest segments in recent Raw history, Goldust and R-Truth tell Bob Backlund that there is a Pokemon on him. Bob has no clue what a Pokemon is and Darren Young has to calm him down. Darren had been talking about how close he came to getting the IC Strap from Miz. Bob knew Darren would take the strap, soon.

Charlotte was asked about her match, tonight, against Sasha Banks. Charlotte was super confident that Sasha would fall to her.

Let’s find out…

Charlotte vs Sasha Banks

The Finish:

Charlotte came off the floor but got kicked, immediately. Sasha applied the BankStatement. Charlotte reached the ropes to force the break. Sasha came back to rock the champion with the Lung Blower. Sasha put Charlotte back in the BankStatement and kept Charlotte away from the ropes. Dana wasn’t able to help and Charlotte TAPPED OUT!

Your Winner (and NEW Women’s Champion): “The Boss” Sasha Banks
Raw Ranking: 3.5

Sasha did an inspiring interview, after the match.

After the break, Byron Saxton interviewed rookie, James Ellsworth. James was honored to be on Raw but did think he would have to face Braun Strowman.

Braun Strowman vs James Ellsworth

James got one shot in before Braun exploded on his foe. Braun tossed James all around. Braun lifted James and delivered the Face of Fear Face Plant.

Your Winner: Braun Strowman
Raw Ranking: .5

Golldust and R-Truth are still playing Pokemon Go.

Enzo and Cass did their usual intro thing.

Enzo Amore and Big Cass vs The Shining Stars (Epico and Primo)

The Finish:

Right in the middle of the action, R-Truth strolls through the ring. He was still looking for a Pokemon. Sigh. Cass seemed off his game and just used a Big Boot to take out Primo.

Your Winners: Enzo and Cass
Raw Ranking: 1.5

Roman Reigns vs Finn Balor
Winner faces Seth Rollins for the Universal Title at Summerslam

The Finish:

Roman goes for Splash Mountain but Finn turned it into a Sunset Flip. Roman hit one-armed versions of a standard Powerbomb and Sit-Out Powerbomb. Finn surprised Roman with the Sling Blade and Running Drop Kick. When Roman collapsed, Finn rushed up and hit the Coup de Grace.

Your Winner: Finn Balor
Raw Ranking: 4.0

After the match, Roman was asked about losing to Finn. Roman hoped Finn defeated Seth, at Summerslam. Roman was determined to beat Finn, the next time they faced off.

Peace
