Crystal Ball: Money in the Bank, 2016

Jay Shannon draws upon all his predictive skills to pick the winners and losers of an upcoming major wrestling event.

Money in the Bank sets up a great running storyline. Whoever gets the golden briefcase is like Charlie Bucket at Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. Charlie got the Keys to the Kingdom and the winner of the briefcase will get their own chance to have it all. In addition, several good feuds get spotlighted and there is a better-than-average chance that a title just might change hands, on Sunday. Let’s take a look…

Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) vs The Golden Truth (Goldust and R-Truth)

This feud, honestly, really isn’t going anywhere. Neither team is a serious contender to the tag straps, right now. Two of these guys (Goldy and Truth) are nearing the ends of their respective WWE careers. The other two just haven’t reached the levels that they could/should have. Golden Truth has undergone quite a bit of growing pains, as a team. That will likely make Tyler and Fandango over-confident. Goldy and Truth are likely going to sneak in and take the win.

Predicted Winners: The Golden Truth
Predicted Grade: 2.0 out of a possible 5

Dolph Ziggler vs Baron Corbin

Again, they trot out this stale match-up. Both men are quite talented but their feud is just not that interesting. They have gone back and forth with wins so I can’t really pull from their past history. I’m just thinking that New Era overcomes Classics, so I’m going with Corbin.

Predicted Winner: Baron Corbin
Predicted Grade: 2.0

Apollo Crews vs Sheamus

So, Sheamus gets to play in the new Ninja Turtles movie. WWE wants to keep him in the spotlight to help out the movie. I get that. At the same time, Crews is one of the hottest rookies on the WWE Radar. Sheamus really doesn’t have anything to gain or lose with this match. Therefore, I have to think that Crews will go into Crews Control to take the win over the Celtic Warrior.

Predicted Winner: Apollo Crews
Predicted Grade: 2.75

Titus O’Neil vs Rusev
United States Title Match

Titus is a great performer but I feel he is still in the doghouse with Vinny Mac. I can’t imagine them suspending him for a fluff thing like grabbing Mr. McMahon by the arm in a moment of excitement. It did happen. Which makes me question if they would dare allow Titus to win the gold. He may do it, eventually, but Rusev is going to just steam roll over Titus and move on to his next challenge. I’m wondering if Creative might be considering John Cena after John finishes his program with A.J. Styles? But for Sunday…

Predicted Winner: Rusev
Predicted Grade: 2.0

Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn vs Cesaro vs Chris Jericho vs Dean Ambrose vs Alberto Del Rio
Money in the Bank Match

This one really has me stumped. Each man could be a good choice to win but each man could also be a disaster as the MitB holder. I’m pretty sure Jericho won’t have a snowball’s chance to taking the win. Alberto Del Rio has floundered since his early success after returning to the WWE. Cesaro’s push seems to be on the decline, not that I can understand why. Dean Ambrose vs Seth or Roman might be decent but I’m just not convinced that Dean could run with the World Title. Kevin Owens is a great talent but he just feels like a secondary title holder to me. He has struggled with WWE promos. On the indy circuit, Kevin was amazing on the stick. In WWE, he just seems lost, at times. I can’t imagine they would elevate him without the ability to talk the talk. Plus, Kevin just doesn’t quite fit the mold of what WWE likes to push as a champion. I do apologize to Kevin for these words but I type it as I see it. Sami Zayn is excellent but so was Neville. Sami has gotten so bogged down with his feud with Owens that he just might end up eliminated from contention. So, I’ve described why each man probably WON’T win Money in the Bank. Someone has to win it, so who will it be? I have to look at who would be best to go against either Roman or Seth, as the case may be. Jericho? Nope. Dean? Maybe. Cesaro? He is most likely going to stay focused on Miz and the IC strap. Owens? He’d give Roman one Hell of a fight. Sami? He’d do so well against Seth. Del Rio? He’s definitely a Dark Horse in this one. A lot of this just might depend on how the World Title match is set to go. I know…I know…get on with it and make a choice. Fine. Smile.

Predicted Winner: Alberto Del Rio
Predicted Grade: 3.0

Charlotte and Dana Brooke vs Becky Lynch and Natalya

Man, the Women’s division has gotten so darn boring. The women are talented but the roster is pretty depleted and the writing has been sub-par, as of late. In the good ol’ days, the building feud between Charlotte and Dana would take months to come to fruition. Charlotte is really following in her daddy’s footsteps by annexing those who she has brought close. Ric Flair did it with Sting and Lex Luger. Charlotte already did it with Becky Lynch and Paige. I feel we are about to see Dana added to the mix. To make that happen, Charlotte and Dana are going to drop the match to Nattie and Becky, Sunday. Charlotte is going to trip out on her protégé and the fight will be on. I expect Charlotte vs Dana at the next PPV.

Predicted Winners: Becky Lynch and Natalya
Predicted Grade: 1.5

The New Day vs The Vaudevillains vs Enzo Amore and Colin “Big Cass’ Cassidy vs The Club

This one should be amazing. I definitely feel it is time for New Day to get a vacation from being the tag champs. I really like the team but keeping the belt(s) on any one person or team for too long can cause the fans to bore with the title(s). I have run the various scenarios through my head. My heart tells me to go with Enzo Amore and Big Cass. Enzo got sidelined with the concussion but is now fully recovered. The fans adore the duo. I almost think that they are TOO popular. Vaudevillains are technically the strongest in this match but I just do sense championship level, just yet. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson tore it up in Japan. I think if they lose, it will help to bring in their (rumored) new Club leader. For once, to heck with Logic, I’m going with the most entertaining duo to come along in a month of Sundays.

Predicted Winners (and NEW Tag Team Champions): Enzo Amore and Colin “Big Cass” Cassidy
Predicted Grade: 3.25

John Cena vs A.J. Styles

The term “Dream Match” is thrown out, a lot. This one is perhaps one of the most anticipated matches of the year. It definitely has the potential to be a “Match of the Year” candidate. That is, of course, if the other members of The Club don’t foul this one up. Sadly, they probably will. The hot rumor is Finn Balor is about to take over running The Club, as he used to do in Japan. I could see John getting very close to taking the win, when Finn ushers the rest of the “Balor Club” (Now trademarked by WWE) to the ring to destroy Cena. The ref, of course, calls for he bell and John wins by DQ.

Predicted Winner (by Disqualification): John Cena
Predicted Grade: 3.0

Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins
World Title Match

This match will definitely be worth the cost of the ticket. These two are going to leave it all out there. I’m just keeping a prayer in mind that Seth won’t reinjure the knee. I think Seth would make a stronger champion than Roman but Sunday won’t be the time that the upstart reaches back up to the top. For some bizarre reason, I’m expecting Bray Wyatt to finally make his return after losing his beloved grandfather (Blackjack Mulligan). I’m thinking Bray waits until Roman overcomes Seth and then hits the ring to beat the stuffing out of the champ.

Predicted Winner: Roman Reigns
Predicted Grade: 3.5

In Conclusion:

I’m expecting this Father’s Day spectacular to be something that any pop would be proud to sit and watch with his kids. This event will surprise a lot of people with just how good it is going to be.
