WAHT HAPPENED, THIS WEEK, @ WWE’S MONDAY NIGHT RAW

Posted April 19th, 2016 by jshannon

WWE hopped the Big Pond to do a huge show in London. The weird alliance between Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt just MIGHT be explained. Plus, Dean Ambrose debuted, officially, his new talk show, The Ambrose Asylum. Sigh.

Roll the opening montage!

Welcome to the O2 Arena. I’m sure one or more of my English friends are in the crowd. Smile.

The Ambrose Asylum:

Before the talking started, Raw looked back at how Ambrose took over the talk thing from Chris Jericho. None of them are as good as the late, great Roddy Piper was. Dean rambled on about river monsters and Braun Strowman. Yawn. Dean discussed other talk show hosts and then introduced the parents of the guy that does the Late, Late Show. Then, he got down to business, sort of. Dean introduced his guest, Shane McMahon.

Isn’t it interesting that Shane lost at Wrestlemania but STILL gets to run Raw? Shane danced his way down to the ring. The crowd cut loose with a “Shane-O Mac” chant. Dean welcomed Shane to his little show. “You Still Got It!” was the next chant to ring out. Dean acknowledged the chant. They showed the clip of Shane jumping off the top of the Hell in a Cell structure. Damn, that was so impressive. Dean admitted that Shane made him stop and think “What was HE thinking?” The fans began the “Ole Ole” chant. Dean wanted to get down to brass tax. Dean asked what was on Shane’s agenda. Shane explained he was there to make things better for the fans. Shane wanted to give guys that would never have gotten a shot, in the old days, their time to shine.

They were cut off by the arrival of Kevin Owens. Kevin said Shane was just another McMahon-crazed-with-power taking it out on Kevin. Shane corrected Kevin that he had no vendetta against Owens. Kevin wanted to know why Shane had he escorted out of the arena, last week. Shane told Kevin that he (Shane) did not want Owens to jeopardize Sami Zayn’s title match. Kevin then went off on Sami Zayn…

Thought brought out the former El Generico, Sami Zayn. Kevin was not happy to see his old buddy. Sami reminded Kevin that Zayn was signed by WWE before Owens was. Sami knew Kevin was jealous of his success. Sami took some credit for getting Kevin into the WWE.

Enter Chris Jericho. Why? The fans popped huge for Y2J. Jericho told everyone to shut up and listen to what he had to say. Jericho gave Kevin credit for having half a brain. Chris told Shane that McMahon was drunk with power. Chris got up in Shane’s face and explained he was the best in the world at what he does. Chris was ticked off that Shane took away his Highlight Reel segment. Shane said Chris could always go to the WWENetwork to watch all the classic Highlight Reels.

Dean tried to regain order by grumbling about his plant being in danger. Shane made matches for the next PPV: Chris Jericho vs Dean Ambrose and Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens. Both of these would happen at Payback. Dean put his plant in a safe place and then the fight was one. Jericho and Owens bailed out of the ring. Time for a break.

Chris Jericho vs Sami Zayn

This match was made, during the commercial break. Jericho kicked and chopped Sami. Sami sent Chris into the ropes. Universal into a pair of Deep Arm Drags by Sami. Sami rolled Chris around and took his to the mat. Chris popped and chopped Sami. Whip by Jericho but Sami bounced off the rope0s and Heel Kicked Chris. 1 count, only. Sami rocked Jericho with a couple of Forearms. Jericho came back and decked Sami with his own Forearm. Springboard Crossbody failed Jericho. Springboard Moonsault, to the floor, by Sami. Dang, this kid is just so talented.

Sami pitched Chris back in the ring. Chris kneed Saami and then chopped him. Chris was thrown on the apron. He came off the top and got blasted. Sami ran the ropes but Chris tripped him. Jericho drove his boot into Sami’s throat. Dropkick by Chris. Break time.

Jericho sent Sami sailing over the ropes. The ref started to count Sami out. Zayn got back in in plenty of time. Chris dropped Sami and made an arrogant cover. 2 count. Snap Mare into a Rear Chin Lock by Chris. Sami twisted up to his feet and decked Chris with a vicious series of Clotheslines. Chris popped Sami but Zayn came up swinging. Chris dropped Zayn and tried to apply the Walls of Jericho. He failed. Running Bulldog by Chris. Lionsault countered as Sami brought the knees. Blue Thunder Bomb by Sami almost scored the win.

Chris was down and hurt. Sami headed up top but took way too much time. Dropkick by Chris. Walls of Jericho! Sami would not surrender. He inched his way towards the ropes. He got them to force the break. Chris rushed Sami and got flipped out to the floor. Zayn prepped for a Suicide Dive but Chris moved. Dive Through DDT by Sami. Damn, that is impressive. The fans showed their approval.

Back in the ring, Jericho cowered in the corner. He then caught Sami with the Code Breaker to take this one home.

Your Winner: Chris Jericho
Raw Ranking: 3.5 out of a possible 5

Mauro was there to do an interview. He talked with A.J. Styles. Mauro asked Styles to explain his meteoric rise in the WWE. Styles stopped to introduce Karl “Machine Gun” Anderson and Luke “Doc” Gallows. Karl and Doc thanked Styles for putting in the good word for them. Karl said he wanted to be like A.J. when he grew up. Styles was so happy to have his old friends back with him. They started to joke about Roppongi. Could we see Rocky Romero and Trent Barreta soon?

Enzo and Cass vs The Dudley Boys
Tag Team Tournament, Semi Finals Match #1

I love these guys. Enzo is so the Road Dogg of this generation. I’ve talked that over with tons of fans and a few of “The Boys”. Cass definitely fills the Billy Gunn role. Enzo had a riddle for the fans. It led to him saying “There is “DUD” in Dudley Boys”. Enzo said the Dudleys are Duds not Studs. Enzo compared him and Cass to small breasts “We are real, whether you like us or not”. “S-A-W-F-T” was Cass’ thought about D’Von and Bubba Ray.

That brought out D’Von and Bubba Ray. Enzo and D’Von locked up and went to the corner. D’Von bashed and battered Enzo. Tag to Bubba Ray. Bubba took Enzo to the corner and slapped the chest. Bubba got up in Cass’ face. The ref had to hold Cass back, as Raw cut to commercial.

Bubba worked over Enzo with huge clubbing blows. Enzo showed his defiance and told Bubba to bring it. Shoulder Tackle by Bubba. D’Von asked to come in and fight. Bubba asked his “Brother” to destroy the loud-mouthed Jersey Boy. D’Von stood on Enzo’s face. Funk Neckbreaker by D’Von brought a two plus. D’Von threw Enzo into the corner. Tag to Bubba. Bubba told “Skywalker” to keep talking. Big Splash by Bubba. 2 count. Tag back to D’Von. Straight fist to Enzo’s kisser. Scoop Slam to the much smaller Enzo. D’Von then mocked Enzo’s “You Can’t Teach Dat” catchphrase.

Bubba tagged back in and they ended up on the ropes. Enzo clocked Bubba. Bubba missed a Senton, off the ropes. Tag to Cass! Shoulder Tackle to D’Von and a Clothesline to Bubba. Scoop Slam to D’Von. Cass hit his wild Jumping Elbow and Corner Splash. He missed a 2nd Splash. Tag to Bubba. Inverted 3D but the Dudleys messed up a follow up shot. Rocket Launcher by Enzo and Cass.

Your Winners: Enzo and Cass
Raw Ranking: 3.5

Roman Reigns came out to a huge round of boos. I just don’t think Roman is getting the kind of reaction that WWE has been hoping for. Roman held his title belt high in the air. Roman circled the ring as the boos rose to a crescendo. Roman reminded 4everyone that he wasn’t a good guy or a bad guy… he was THE guy. Roman paid respect to A.J. Styles. Roman knew Styles would try to out-wrestle him, but that would not work. Roman was ready to hit anyone in the mouth to defend the Roman Empire. The fans brought up a “Boring” chant.

That came to a stop when A.J. Styles made his entrance. Styles was not intimidated by the bigger Reigns. Styles gave Roman credit for being “One Hell of a Champion”. Styles knew he would have to have the match of his life to beat Roman. He was so up for that. Styles knew WWE came to him because of his talents. Roman understood and agreed with most of what Styles said. Roman noticed that the fans liked A.J. Styles. Roman was digging what Styles was doing. Roman then said the fans were not going to like it but he was going to beat Styles at Payback. Roman didn’t need to be liked, only respected. Styles said he wanted to be liked AND respected. Styles said he would be the next WWE champion. Styles then backed out of the ring.

Suddenly, Gallows and Anderson jumped Roman Reigns, from behind. Styles looked shocked that his buddies would do that.

Roman walked backstage. Mauro interviewed Roman about the sneak attack. Styles came up and swore he didn’t know anything about the attack. Roman said Styles needed to sing a new tune. Roman was ready to face Styles and all his boys.

Dolph Ziggler was at ringside for the next match.

Fandango vs Baron Corbin

Raw looked back at a recent battle between Dolph and Corbin. The bell rang and Corbin took Fandango to the corner. Chops by Fandango. Baron clocked Fandango with a hard Forearm. Baron tossed Fandango out of the ring. Baron threw Fandango over the announce desk and into Dolph. Baron blasted Dolph. Dolph lost his cool but stood back. End of Days.

Your Winner: Baron Corbin
Raw Ranking: 1.5

Dolph rushed in to attack Baron. It was a bad move as Corbin laid out the Sow Off. End of Days, on the floor.

Miz and Maryse walked backstage. Maryse was being such a true Diva. We get MIZTv, next? WHY!
MIZTv:

Miz played tonsil hockey with his wife until Cesaro showed up. Cesaro will challenge for the Intercontinental title at Payback. Cesaro was seriously dressed to the nines. Cesaro said Miz was a “Royal Pina in the *ss” Miz knew Cesaro was a bit player while he was an “A-Lister”. The fans quickly broke out the “Boring” chant. Miz started to rant and the fans gave him Hell for it. Miz was just awful in this take off of Taken. Cesaro was not that impressed. Miz kept doing reshoots about how he was going to beat Cesaro. Cesaro stole “When MY Hand goes up” catchphrase from Miz. Cesaro was certain he was about to become the new IC Champ. Cesaro did the classic “All out of Bubble Gum” quote from “They Live”. I LOVE that movie! Miz backed off from a fight, since Rusev was set to fight Cesaro.

Rusev came out with the League of Nations faction. Cesaro explained that he talked to Shane and got this match changed to Miz and the League of Nations vs Cesaro and New Day! Sweet!

Kofi leapt way up in the air to set up the Unicorn Stampede. Springboard Dropkick to ADR’s chest. Woods broke out the trombone.

Tilt-a-Whirl Backbreaker by Alberto and then a tag to Sheamus. Running Shoulder and Million Dolalr Kneelift by Sheamus. Tag to Rusev. Rusev kicked and stomped away on his foe. Scoop Powerslam by Sheamus. Neutralizer by Cesaro.

Your Winners: Cesaro, Xavier Woods, Big E and Kofi Kingston
Raw Ranking: 3.5

Charlotte and Ric Flair came up to be interviewed. Mauro sent it to highlights of Charlotte vs Natalya, last week. Ric Flair pulled the ref out of the ring to pull the DQ. Nattie had Charlotte tapping out but the ref had already called for the DQ. Charlotte questioned Mauro for his journalistic shortcomings. Charlotte said Naitalya had to beat her, not the other way round. Natalya came out and said she did make Charlotte tap out. Nattie announced that she will get a rematch at Payback. Nattie said her uncle Bret Hart would be in her corner at Payback. Cool.

Since we just saw two of the best women in wrestling, I wanted to talk, briefly, about one of the best women in acting. We just lost Doris Roberts. Doris was such a key player in several great shows, as well as some fun Hallmark movies. May your rest be a most blessed one.

Natalya, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks and Paige vs Charlotte, Naomi, Tamina and Summer Rae
