Crystal Ball: Ring of Honor’s 14th Anniversary Show

Jay Shannon utilizes all his predictive skills to determine the winners and losers of an upcoming major wrestling event.

Ring of Honor is headed to Las Vegas, this Friday, for one of their biggest shows of the year. They are bringing in a lot of great talent from New Japan to make the show extra special. Let’s take a look…

B.J. Whitmer vs Adam Page
Grudge Match

Page came to Steve Corino to go after Whitmer. I have to think this was in response to Whitmer’s brutalization of Steve’s son, Colby Corino. Colby was Adam’s protégé. This match is going to be vicious and possibly bloody. Since this is building to Steve Corino vs B.J. Whitmer, somewhere down the road, I’m going with Whitmer to defeat Page.

Predicted Winner: B.J. Whitmer
Predicted Grade: 2.5 out of a possible 5

Alex Shelley vs “Almighty” Christopher Daniels

Shelley spoiled The Addiction’s Tag Team Title reign. Frankie and Christopher have wanted revenge, ever since. This match should be a solid outing but I have a feeling that Kaz will get involved. That could possibly set the stage for a reunion of the Motor City Machine Guns tandem of Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley. Fans really want that to happen. As it is, expect Shelley to win this one by disqualification.

Predicted Winner (by Disqualification): Alex Shelley
Predicted Grade: 3.0

“Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada vs Moose
Non-Title Match (IWGP Heavyweight)

Stokely Hathaway issued the challenge to Okada, on behalf of his charge. Gedo will be in Okada’s corner for this contest. I honestly think the Rookie of the Year, Moose, will give his all but come up a little short.

Predicted Winner: Kazuchika Okada
Predicted Grade: 3.0

Mark and Jay Briscoe vs “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin and Hiroshi Tanahashi

This one is going to be good. I think the determining factor will be that Tanahashi is just coming back from an injury. The Briscoes are building towards another run at the tag team championships. I think Dem Boys are going to take this one.

Predicted Winners: The Briscoes
Predicted Grade: 3.0

Kenny Omega and Nick and Matt Jackson (The Bullet Club) vs KUSHIDA, ACH and Matt Sydal
N.E.V.E.R. Open Weight Six Man Tag Team Title Match

This one is definitely going to be the Show Stealer of the Night. The Bullet Club suffered a major hit when they lost A.J. Styles to WWE. The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick) have been together for many years). The guys from Bullet Club have had so much more time together. The other side offers a team that has only worked together a few times. I feel the champs are going to retain.

Predicted Winners: The Bullet Club
Predicted Grade: 4.0

Tomohiro Ishii vs Roderick Strong vs Bobby Fish
Triple Threat for the World TV Title

Ishii won the title, a few days back. Ring of Honor quickly changed the original match of Strong vs Fish to include the new champ, Ishii. I have a feeling that Ring of Honor is going to switch he title back to Strong and then have Ishii take it back, in a week or two.

Predicted Winner (and NEW TV Champion): Roderick Strong
Predicted Grade: 4.25

War Machine (Raymond Rowe and Hanson) vs the All Night Express (Kenny King and Rhett Titus)
No DQ Match for the World Tag Team titles

I expect this match to be an instant classic. It has the feel of the Road Warriors vs the Rock and Roll Express. I’m going with the champs to retain after one of the most vicious battles in Ring of Honor history.

Predicted Winners: War Machine
Predicted Grade: 3.75

Jay Lethal vs Adam Cole vs Kyle O’Reilly
Triple Threat for the World title

If Jay was going one-on-one with either man, he would probably lose the title. I feel Adam and Kyle will cancel each other in this battle. Jay will skate past the two of them to retain the title, one more time. I expect him to drop the strap in Dallas at Supercard of Honor X.

Predicted Winner: Jay Lethal
Predicted Grade: 4.5

In addition:

Hirooki Goto will have a match against an unnamed opponent (which he will likely win). Cheeseburger and Dalton Castle will also be there, in some capacity.

In Conclusion:

This is going to be an amazing show. If I didn’t have to work on Friday night, I’d be so tempted to order this one. I hope they will have the DVD available at Wrestlecon.
