Posted February 3rd, 2016 by jshannon

The Top Prospect Tournament continued, this week. Plus, the main event saw reDRagon take on Jay Lethal and Adam Cole.

Roll the opening montage!

Masada vs Roderick Strong
TV Title Match

Masada, a native-born Texan, has a reputation as one of the most brutal men in the business. He has become an expert in the infamous “Death Matches” in Japan. The normal rules were “relaxed” for this match, whatever that meant.

Knuckle Lock by Masada. Strong turned it into a Go Behind. Masada rolled into a Knee Bar but Strong reached the ropes. Masada bowed to his foe. Modified Seated Stump Puller by Masada. Strong Bridged up and almost pinned Masada. The two got into a shoving match and Strong told Masada to bring it. Forearm shots by both men. That led to a Knife Edge Chop-a-thon. Strong tossed Masada out to the floor. Masada pulled Strong out and slammed him. Masada quickly threw Roddy back in. Jumping Knee and Back Drop, on the ring apron. RoH took a quick commercial break.

The two threw wild shots at each other. Masada dropped Roddy with a Clothesline. Belly to Back by the Death Match specialist. Masada went for a Powerbomb but Strong rolled free. Spicoli Driver by Masada but it only brought a two. Roddy got up of a Suplex and hit an Olympic Slam. Running Knees by Roddy into a Flip Suplex. 2 count. Masada went for a Cross Armbreaker but they were too close to the ropes. Masada pulled out an “international object”. Roddy took it away but didn’t get to use it. Powerbomb by Masada. The object was a collection of bamboo sticks. Strong tossed Masada out to the floor. Roddy finished off Masada with a Jumping Knee Strike, as Masada tried to get back in the ring.

Your Winner: Roderick Strong
Honor Roll Ranking: 4.0 out of a possible 5

Bobby Fish came out to taunt Roddy. Fish felt Strong was willing to face anyone…as long as their name isn’t Bobby Fish. Fish didn’t blame Roddy for ducking him. Roddy felt Bobby couldn’t handle defeat, so close to the end of his career. Fish assured Strong and the fans that the next time they battled, Strong would lose the TV title. Roddy told Bobby to get out of “his” ring. Bobby tried to discuss going to war but Roddy just walked out of the arena. Fish promised to remain up in Roddy’s face.

RoH flashed back to last week when Michael Elgin challenged the Briscoe Brothers to fight him and Tanahashi.

Colby Corino (w/B.J. Whitmer) vs Punisher Martinez
Top Prospect Tournament, Round One

Colby is Steve Corino’s son. Punisher is ever so much bigger than Colby. Code of Honor handshake.

The bell rang and the two men circled each other. Colby hit a Knife Edge that had zero effect. Colby with a flurry of strikes…that led nowhere. Punisher dropped Colby like a bad habit. Hammer Throw by Punisher led to Corner Splash Elbows. Punisher with a modified Vertebreaker. 1-2-kick out by Colby. Running Forearm by Punisher into a hard Scoop Slam. Punisher came off the turnbuckles but got Dropkicked. Rolling Leg Lariat and Dropkick by Colby. Jacobs Cutter by Colby. Colby then hit a Twisting Senton. 2 count. Punisher rolled out to clear his head. Colby hit a Flip Dive off the top rope. I like this kid. Colby went for a Hurancanrana but Punisher slipped and Powerbombed Colby. He then hit the move onto the apron and Colby was long gone. Punisher brought Colby back in the ring and Goozled him into the Side Effect Chokeslam.

Your Winner: Punisher Martinez
Honor Roll Ranking: 2.75

After the match, B.J. Whitmer got in the ring. He told Colby to tell his old man to take off his mask. Whitmer is certain that Mr. Wrestling III is Steve Corino. Whitmer talked trash about Steve spending time with the new family and ignoring Colby. Whitmer gave “Steve” one final chance to unmask before he let fate decide what happened next. When MW3 wouldn’t do it, Whitmer attacked Colby. He hit several Exploder Suplexes after berating the 19-year old kid. What a jerk.

When it was all said and done, Whitmer dumped Colby across the ropes in front of MW3. The refs checked on Colby as WHitmer screamed at 3. He accused “Steve” of sacrificing his own son for selfish reasons. Kevin Kelly sent it to break.

RoH looked back at Nigel McGuinness’s announcement of the main event for the 14th Anniversary show. It will be Kyle O’Reilly vs Jay Lethal vs Adam Cole for the World title. I’m hoping Adam Cole takes that match but I’m going to likely choose Lethal to retain when I do my predictions.

Nigel joined Kevin at the announce desk. Mr. Wrestling III left for the night. Get ready for the main event.

reDRagon (Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly) vs Jay Lethal and Adam Cole

RoH took a break to clean the streamers out of the ring.

Jay and Fish became legal and Fish put Lethal on his back. Knee strikes and Kyle tagged back in. Kyle worked over Jay’s arm. Slider Knee right into the arm. Fish took the tag and worked over the arm, as well. Lethal was back dropped to the floor. Cole did not want to battle Kyle. Neckbreaker by Cole to Fish but it only drew a two. The fight went out on the floor. Cole stomped Fish, in the corner. Cole showed off in front of his tag partner. Time for one more commercial break.

Cole tagged in and Snap Mared Fish. Bobby was in a bad way. Kyle popped Cole in the face. Cole then spat at his arch-enemy. Lethal tagged back in and Snap Mared Fish. Dropkick to Bobby’s neck. Tag to Cole. Adam blasted Fish. Cole prevented the tag to Kyle. Fish fought out of the enemy corner with a wicked Samoan Drop. Both men went towards their corners. Tags on both sides. Kyle dropped Jay and went after Cole. Jay almost got the jump on Kyle but O’Reilly exploded with kicks and punches. Kyle hit the Flying Knee Strike, off the apron, to Cole. Tilt-a-Whirl DDT by Kyle.
