As confirmed first-hand by correspondent Koichi Yoshizawa, Shinsuke Nakamura is leaving his home promotion of New Japan Pro Wrestling for World Wrestling Entertainment. Nakamura at the time of the announcement was still the New Japan Intercontinental Champion, but during the “New Years Dash” show, told the crowd he was coming for Nakamura’s intercontinental Title. What everyone thought would happen next was Nakamura doing the honors for Omega at the January 30th show at Korakuen Hall, but now we have confirmed news of something else.

Instead of challenging the “King of Strong Style”, Kenny Omega will now face a “mystery” opponent because New Japan has stripped Shinsuke of his title. Nakamura will still be part of New Japan’s roster as he finishes out the month. At that same show, Nakamura will participate in a huge six-man tag match featuring Hiroshi Tanahashi, Hirooki Goto & Katsuyori Shibata taking on IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchka Okada, Tomohiro Ishii.

Now that we all know Nakamura doesn’t have to drop a title belt, WWE fans can begin to salivate at what this man can bring to the American audience if he indeed steps foot in the WWE ring. Last October, Alberto Del Rio made waves by signing with the WWE but yet he was still the AAA Champion.

Stripping Nakamura and having Omega face an unknown opponent adds a ton of intrigue to this entire scenario. Only time will tell what Nakamura will do for WWE fans, but NJPW fans can be rest assured that their home promotion will continue to be thrive.
