Crystal Ball: Night of Champions 2015

Jay Shannon draws upon all his predictive skills to pick the winners and losers of a major wrestling event.

So, all the titles are on the line. Plus, WWE will throw in a few extra matches to fill out the card. Seth Rollins has to fight twice and possibly three times. The Dudley Boyz make their WWE PPV Return. This one should be a better-than-average show. Let’s take a look…

Neville and the Lucha Dragons vs Star Dust and the Ascension
Six Man Tag Team Match (Kick-Off Show)

There are no titles on the line in this one but it could well set the mood for the whole night. I’d kind of like to see the Cosmic Forces take this one but I think Neville and the Dragons are going to win this one.

Predicted Winners: Neville, Sin Cara and Kalisto
Predicted Grade: 3.5 out of a possible 5

Dolph Ziggler vs Rusev

This one is as messed up as any storyline can get. Lana, who is out with a wrist injury, left Rusev to buddy up with Dolph. Rusev then brought in Summer Rae and turned her into Lana 2.0. Summer accused Dolph of trying to seduce her, which drove a wedge between Dolph and Lana…as well as one between Summer and Rusev. Dolph has taken to flirting and giving gifts to Summer. Days of Our Lives ain’t got nothing on this soap opera. Smile.

So, on to the match. Rusev is so much larger than Dolph. If this was the “Real World”, Rusev would annihilate Dolph. I feel Summer and possibly Lana are going to get involved. I sense Dolph’s wooing of Summer was an extension ploy by Dolph and Lana to throw Rusev off his game and it will work.

Predicted Winner: Dolph Ziggler
Predicted Grade: 2.0

New Day vs The Dudley Boyz
World Tag Team Title Match

There is a massive rumor that the Dudleys are being considered for the Hall of Fame. It would sure look nice on their resume to be a 10-time WWE Tag Championship Team. For some odd reason, I just don’t think the Dudleys are going to win the titles on Sunday. I have the funny feeling that a table is going to get involved and the Dudleys get done wrong. That will lead to a Tables Match at the next PPV, where the Dudleys may well take the straps.

Predicted Winners: The New Day
Predicted Grade: 2.5

Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper and Braun Strowman vs Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and a Mystery Partner
Six Man Tag Team Match

Creative is going to go one of two ways with the Mystery Partner. 1. Someone brought up from NXT, likely Samoa Joe or 2. The Return of Erick Rowan. Initially, I was leaning toward Rowan. The more I seriously thought about it, Joe needs a “Ta-Da” moment for his rise to the main roster. The Kokina Clutch vs The Apocalypse could really prove interesting to watch. This one should be good and brutal. In the end, the Wyatts are going to face defeat at the hands of Dean, Roman and their partner.

Predicted Winners: Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and the Mystery Partner
Predicted Grade: 3.0

Nikki Bella vs Charlotte
Divas Title Match

On paper, this looks to be an easy night for Ric Flair’s little girl. If Nikki loses in any way, the title goes to Charlotte. The problem is there seems to be some issues within Charlotte’s little group, Team PCB. Paige is showing signs of frustration at being passed over for the Divas title shot. There has been numerous miscommunication problems in the last couple of weeks. I just expect Paige to turn on Charlotte and cost her the title. Nikki goes on to defend against Diva-of-the-Moment and Charlotte and Paige have an epic feud.

Predicted Winner: Nikki Bella
Predicted Grade: 2.0

Ryback vs Kevin Owens
Intercontinental Title Match

Ryback just seems like a short-term champion to me. He’s got talent and is also decent on the microphone. I think Owens is going to defeat Ryback with an amazing Pop-Up Powerbomb.

Predicted Winner (and NEW I-C Champ): Kevin Owens
Predicted Grade: 3.0

Seth Rollins vs John Cena
United States Title Match

I had two viewpoints on Seth’s double title match situation. If Seth were to win both matches, they could really push how unbeatable he is. But…where would he go from there? I would imagine that the US title match would come earlier on the card than the World title. If it does, Seth will retain and go into the World title match so over-confident. John could then switch focus and go after the IC strap.

Predicted Winner: Seth Rollins
Predicted Grade: 3.75

Seth Rollins vs Sting
World Title Match

Like I said, I thought Seth would take both wins or lose both titles. Then I switched into Booker Man Mode (thanks Scooter for that little term). WWE has done a few good swerves in recent months. Undertaker’s return to attack Brock Lesnar comes to mind. I really think this match deserves a good old-fashioned swerve. Here’s how I would book this one:

Seth comes in way too cocky for his own good. Sting teaches Seth a true wrestling lesson and beats him after a hard-fought war. Sting finally adds the World Title to his list of championships. Unfortunately for Sting, Sheamus rushes down and Cashes In on Sting and hits a Brogue Kick to claim the title.

Predicted Winner (and NEW Champions): Sting, then Sheamus
Predicted Grade: 4.5

In Conclusion:

I plan on spending my first day off in two weeks planted right in front of my computer for this event. WWE has gotten much better at upping the 2nd tier shows to a much higher level. I really think this one will be excellent. Join me and the rest of the 1Wrestling.com family as we bring you the results and fallout of this Golden program.
