Crystal Ball: Royal Rumble 2015

Jay Shannon puts all his predictive powers into full gear to try and sort out the winners and losers of an upcoming major wrestling event.

Time to kick off the New Year with the first of the Big Four WWE PPVs (Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series). The Rumble pretty much sets the stage for the next three to six months. This is one of the hardest shows to predict as there is always unexpected surprises.

Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods and Big E (New Day) vs Cesaro, Adam Rose and Tyson Kidd
Six-Man Elimination Tag Team Match during the Kick-Off Pre-Show

Xavier will likely be the first out, due to his injured ankle. New Day will have to fight back from that disadvantage but I think they will. Adam Rose will likely go out next. His push has evaporated faster than water on a Vegas sidewalk…in July. In the end, Cesaro and Tyson will have communication problems, as they seem to have had in recent weeks. Kofi and Big E will rise to overcome the International Duo.

Predicted Winners: New Day
Predicted Grade: 2.0 out of a possible 5

The New Age Outlaws vs The Ascension
Special Challenge Match

The Ascension are claiming to be superior to all teams from the past. To make this brag respectable, Viktor and Konner need to destroy a team or two. Sadly, Billy Gunn and Road Dogg will likely be their first victims. Billy and Dogg will stand tall for the first few minutes but youth and power will eventually take out the multiple time Tag Team Champions.

Predicted Winners: The Ascension
Predicted Grade: 2.0

The Usos vs Miz and Damien Mizdow
World Tag Team Championship Match

The tag team division is Heel Heavy, right now. Cesaro/Tyson Kidd, Cosmic Twins (Star and Goldust), The Ascension, etc… It makes sense to keep a Face Tea on top. The only wild card could be Naomi. Creative could be setting up another Brother vs Brother feud of Jimmy vs Jey. I really think MIz and Mizdow are going to fail and the feud might be Miz vs Mizdow. It could so elevate Mizdow/Sandow to new levels.

Predicted Winners: The Usos
Predicted Grade: 3.0

The Bella Twins vs Paige and Natalya

This is definitely the “popcorn” match of the night. The twins have had their issues in the past but they seem to be on the same page, right now. Paige has had serious issues getting along with anyone. I don’t know why but I just have this odd feeling that Brie is going to turn on her sister for all the B.S. that Nikki put her through, over the last few months. Brie may well just walk away from ringside and leave her sister to be sacrificed to Paige and Natalya.

Predicted Winners: Paige and Natalya
Predicted Grade:1.25

Brock Lesnar vs John Cena vs Seth Rollins
Triple Threat Match for the WWE World Title

Originally, I thought Brock would retain and Undertaker would take the Rumble. Taker vs Lesnar II for the WWE World Title. Still sounds great but I don’t think WWE is going there. This battle is going to be off the freaking charts. Seth is going to climb another several levels. Brock and John are going to remain at the top. Seth is going to look ready to win after he Curb Stomps Brock Lesnar. John Cena will swoop in like a vulture and pick the bones. He will take out She and then nail the AA to tie Ric Flair’s mark of 16 World Titles.

Predicted Winner (and New Champion): John Cena
Predicted Grade: 4.75

The Royal Rumble Match

Of course, it’s really difficult to pick a winner. It’s even tougher when you don’t know exactly who is going to be involved. Originally, I expected Undertaker to return and take the win to go after Lesnar. I’ve changed my mind. I considered Daniel Bryan because that could lead to Daniel Bryan vs John Cena for the World title. Going with Cena as the winner of he World Title, it seems logical that one of three men would win and come after Cena: Ryback, Erick Rowan or Dolph Ziggler. Erick is great but he’s nowhere near ready to Main Event Wrestlemania. Ryback could pull it off but a much better match would be Dolph Ziggler vs John Cena. Dolph could have a major issue with Cena about the whole getting fired thing. Dolph could cut a scathing promo where he talked about how he should have never risked his career for a selfish jerk that didn’t really give a crap about them. Dolph could say that bringing back The Authority showed how little John gave a crap about his teammates. The build up to Wrestlemania could be incredible. Dolph could feud with Seth between next Monday and just before Wrestlemania. As much as I may want others to win, I really feel that Dolph Ziggler is going to take the win.

Predicted Winner: Dolph Ziggler
Predicted Grade: 4.75

In Conclusion:

I do think this show is going to be top notch. I even adjusted my work schedule, just so I didn’t have to miss a single minute. This will be a night of serious story-telling I can hardly wit. I have the popcorn and diet soda purchased and ready to go.
