WWE Monday Night RAW Wrestlers of the Week 12.29.14
By Neil Borenstein

Each week here at 1wrestling.com, I will select three of the top wrestlers from the Monday Night RAW brand and present them to you in inverse order as the show’s Wrestlers of the Week.

Monday Night RAW Wrestlers of the Week for December 29, 2014

3. Luke Harper — for getting back on track after failing to regain the Intercontinental Championship with a victory over Jack Swagger:

Luke Harper has recently been through some show-stealing battles with Dolph Ziggler over the Intercontinental Championship, but he wasn’t fortunate enough to be the one walking away with the title. Still, Harper is a very dangerous Superstar who can easily make some noise at a moment’s notice.

He showed that he is still sharp on Monday night when he squared off with Jack Swagger.

Swagger applied a Patriot Lock to Harper in the closing moments of the match, but Harper was able to reach the ropes to force a break. While still on his back, Swagger darted toward the turnbuckles with hopes of leaping off with a Swagger Bomb. Unfortunately, Harper got the boots straight up into Swagger’s face. Harper hit his feet and delivered a discus closeline that dropped Swagger. Harper covered up and secured the pinfall.

He may be out of the IC title picture for now, but plenty of opportunities await Harper if he continues as he did in his matches against Ziggler and, mostly recently, against Swagger.

2. Bad News Barrett — for returning to secure a big win over a displeased Cesaro:

‘Tis the season for returns, apparently. Daniel Bryan made a big announcement on RAW. Randy Orton is right around the corner from once again making an impact on Monday nights. And Bad News Barrett made a surprise appearance, much to the chagrin of Cesaro.

Cesaro was going off about how he didn’t care about connecting with the people and that he only worries about what he does inside the ring. He challenged anybody to come out and contest that he’s better than them, and that brought out Barrett — who obviously had some bad news.

Perhaps Cesaro was caught a little off guard by this, because he wasn’t able to back up his comments against Barrett. He did get his swing going before stopping way short in order to apply a single-leg Boston Crab. Barrett got to the ropes to break the hold, and Cesaro pulled him to the center of the ring while Barrett dragged the ring apron with him. While the referee went to fix the apron, Barrett raked the eyes of Cesaro and then loaded up for the Bull Hammer. He connected and covered up to score the pinfall.

That was a solid return for Barrett. Cesaro may not be on the hottest of streaks lately, and his stock does seem to be plummeting. But he’s a great wrestler who can pull out a win against anybody, which makes Barrett’s victory over him still impressive — especially for his first match back.

1. The Usos — for becoming two-time WWE Tag Team Champions with a victory over The Miz and Damien Mizdow:

The issues between Jimmy Uso and The Miz would need to take a back seat this week on RAW. While Naomi did perhaps add a little fuel to that fire by hugging and thanking Miz for successfully hooking her up with a producer, the WWE Tag Team Championships were put on the line this Monday when Miz and Damien Mizdow faced The Usos.

Jimmy Uso still clearly had desires on getting his hands on Miz, but his focus was on securing a second title reign the whole match. The Usos were able to make that happen.

In a moment that had most believe the match was all but put away, Miz managed to connect with a Skull Crushing Finale to Jey Uso. However, Uso kicked out at two, and it seemed like the writing was on the wall from there.

Miz went for another Skull Crushing Finale, but Jey Uso battled out and made a tag to his brother. Jimmy Uso delivered a superkick to Miz before both Usos dished out dual superkicks to put Miz down on the mat for the count of three and deliver the WWE Tag Team Championships to The Usos for the second time.

Miz and Mizdow’s bad night would continue when they became the first main roster victims of the debuting Ascension. For The Usos, though, this is the start of what may be another lengthy run with tag team gold.
