Everyone loves a good karma story, and Ediane Gomes got what was coming to her during her last fight at Invicta FC 8.

Gomes was a mainstay in the women’s featherweight division for years, amassing a 10-2 record in which saw her only losses coming to UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and #8 ranked Amanda Nunes. Instead of following suit and dropping to 135 pounds, Gomes opted to crush cans in the paper-thin 145 pound division.

Gomes’ four fight win streak eventually led to her being in talks to face feathweight juggernaut Cris Justino for the Invicta FC 145-pound title. The fight never came to fruition as both women expressed their desire to finally make the cut to bantamweight. That wasn’t all Gomes expressed, however.

Over the summer, Gomes had been outspoken about UFC female fighters using sex appeal or doing bikini-clad photo shoots. “It looks like many female fightters in the UFC have to show their butt these days,” Gomes told MMA Junkie.

We won’t criticize Gomes’ looks or physical appearance, because that doesn’t have anything to do with MMA or any situation of note. What will be criticized is her poor, judgemental attitude that she took for other fighters not going about things in the same manner in which she did. It’s worth noting that Liz Carmouche, Sarah Kaufman, Cat Zingano and Sara McMann have never done the types of things Gomes accuses UFC fighters of doing, and have been granted number one contender status.

At Invicta 8 Gomes was defeated in the first round via submission by Tonya Evinger, a more than capable bantamweight who still couldn’t manage to make it into the TUF 18 house. Just like that, Gomes’ hype train was derailed and all talks of a potential fight with Cyborg at any weight were silenced. It remains to be seen if Gomes’ incredibly uneducated opinions will also be silenced.

Due to her loss, she didn’t be getting a call from the UFC. However, surely she’ll blame it on something else. While she’s not booked for this weekend’s Invicta 10 show, her opponent Tonya Evinger is, in the night’s co-main event. Those are the breaks.
