Monday Night RAW Wrestlers of the Week for November 17, 2014

3. AJ Lee — for sending a message to both Bella twins six days ahead of her Divas Title defense against Nikki at Survivor Series:

AJ Lee will have some interesting opposition on Sunday when she puts the Divas Championship on the line against Nikki Bella. Nikki has the luxury of having a personal assistant in the form of her sister, Brie Bella, who she defeated at Hell In A Cell to set up that arrangement. While Brie might be reluctant to do so, she has to serve every whim of her demanding sister over the course of 30 days.

One of those situations came this week on RAW, when she dressed up as Lee for an exhibition match against Nikki. While the match took place, Lee made sure to get her usual front row seat from the announce table as she provided guest commentary during the bout.

Lee actually did a little more than that. Brie wasn’t supposed to actually take a shot at her sister during the exhibition match. But when she did, Nikki got extra peeved and lifted her up for a Rack Attack. That’s when Lee made her move and hopped onto the ring apron to serve as a distraction. It worked, as Nikki got rolled up by Brie for a three count.

Nikki attacked Brie after the match, but Lee was quick on the scene to make the save by nailing Nikki with a Shining Wizard. If that wasn’t enough, Lee even dished out a kick to the midsection and a DDT to Brie as she was in the middle of a “Yes” chant.

Lee knows that Nikki is the bad guy here — not Brie. But she’s also aware that she needs to take into account that both will be working against her at Survivor Series, whether that is willingly or not. She sent a message to both that she is still the alpha of Diva’s division, and she’s prepared to put her title on the line against Nikki even if Brie gets involved, which she will surely be instructed to do.

2. Ryback — for getting a win over a tough opponent, Cesaro, and making the decision to join Team Cena by the end of the night:

Ryback was a temporary member of Team Authority one week ago on RAW. He began the night as a big addition for Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, but tension boiled over between Kane and The Big Guy to the point that the alliance was no longer by the time RAW came to a close.

This week, Ryback made it clear to The Authority that he was strictly on Team Ryback. And they respected his neutrality, even showing some negative things from the past that John Cena said to Ryback in hopes of further swaying him away from joining Team Cena.

Going it all alone at that point, Ryback still had some action on the show in a match against Cesaro. Ryback was in a bad spot late when two closelines were countered with uppercuts by Cesaro. Ryback kicked out at two from a pin attempt, and then he countered a Neutralizer with a Shell Shocked attempt. Cesaro got out and rolled up Ryback for another two count, though. Then a closeline attempt was ducked by Ryback, who came back with a Meat Hook closeline of his own. Ryback was able to deliver the Shell Shocked after that, and he covered up to get the pinfall.

With the numbers thinning for his team throughout the evening, Cena tried to his best to make a last-minute pitch to Ryback to join his team. The Big Guy still seemed dead-set on staying out of it, but Cena kind of challenged him to man up by the end of their interaction.

And that’s exactly what Ryback did. During a contract signing at the end of the night, Team Cena started to re-take its form when Cena was joined by Ziggler, Big Show and Erick Rowan. When Cesaro came out, he was merely a tease after quickly back-stepping to the side of Team Authority. Then “Feed Me More” hit the arena, and it was no joke. Ryback came down as a member of Team Cena, which stood tall in the middle of the ring at the end of RAW.

The win over Cesaro was a solid showing, but even more important was Ryback’s willingness to step up and take a side for the big classic Survivor Series elimination match this Sunday. He’s a huge “get” for Team Cena and should make a big impact.

1. Luke Harper — for making an immediate impact as a member of Team Authority by defeating Dolph Ziggler to become the new Intercontinental Champion:

Team Authority could have been in a disastrous situation last week when Ryback removed himself from the group. But just as RAW was coming to a close, Luke Harper hand delivered an unconscious Dolph Ziggler to the feet of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, claiming to be a team player.

Harper is definitely crazy, but he can also get the job done. And he made a huge statement to prove that by taking out a member of Team Cena even before officially becoming a member of Team Authority.

He was rewarded — and Ziggler was also punished — with an Intercontinental Championship Match against Ziggler on this week’s RAW. Ziggler was certainly a gamer, countering a discus closeline with a superkick that netted him a two count and also pushing out of a powerbomb attempt toward the end. But after doing the latter, he was caught with a huge discus closeline from Harper, who promptly covered up and got the three count to become the new Intercontinental Champion.

Harper’s world was shaken a bit at the end of the night when former Wyatt Family partner Erick Rowan joined Team Cena. But he still has all the tools necessary to be an impactful “team player’ for Team Authority at the Survivor Series. And now he has the Intercontinental Title to further his credentials.
