Ring of Honor presented the “Golden Gauntlet”. The winner of this wild series of battles will get a future World Title shot.

Kevin Kelly and Nigel McGuinness were your announce team, this week. Steve Corino is taking a couple weeks off to get ready for his upcoming battle with Kevin Steen.

The Golden Gauntlet

B.J. Whitmer vs Caprice Coleman

No Code of Honor Handshake. The bell rang and the fans showed their support for Caprice. Caprice and Whitmer traded Hammerlocks. Over Hand Wristlock by Whitmer. Shoulder Tackle by Whitmer. Side Headlock Takeover by Whitmer. Caprice with Arm Drags but Whitmer nailed a Kneelift. Dropkick by Caprice. Whitmer went to the eyes and then unleashed some Knife Edge Chops. It turned into a Chop-a-thon, until Whitmer thumbed the eyes. Caprice with Knife Edge Chops but Whitmer nailed a solid punch. Back Drop Suplex by the co-leader of the Decade. Head Scissors by Coleman but Whitmer got to the ropes.

Whitmer threw a hard punch and then a series of Knife Edge chops. Coleman answered them with Open Hand Slaps. Snap Mare by Whitmer into a Rear Chin Lock. Whitmer threw Coleman down, by the hair. Whip by Whitmer into a Running Back Elbow. 2 count. Whitmer stomped away. Slaps back and forth that were loud and proud. Whitmer stomped at Coleman’s chest. Scoop Slam by Whitmer as RoH went to break.

Before returning to the action, Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian had a message for ReDRagon. They were coming back and, this time, they would be taking the Ring of Honor World Tag Team straps at Field of Honor.

Both Whitmer and Coleman missed Clotheslines and then hit one on each other, at the same time. Coleman unloaded with a series of wild punches. Back Elbow by Whitmer. Flying Crossbody, off the ropes, by Coleman. Whitmer blocked the Northern Lights Suplex but fell to the Side Russian Leg Sweep and a modified Anaconda Vise. Whitmer rolled over to force Coleman to release the hold. Boots by Whitmer. T.D. Thomas got on the apron. Adam Page held Whitmer to prevent the Hurancanrana. Whitmer with the Lariat to advance.

B.J. Whitmer vs Matt Taven

Whitmer immediately went on the attack. Float Over by Taven. Boot and Missile Dropkick by Taven for a two. Whitmer pulled Taven into the turnbuckles. Knife Edge Chops by Whitmer but Taven answered in kind. Dropkick to Whitmer’s nose. Taven went for a Suicide Dive but hit the brakes. Taven took out Page, on the floor, with a Superkick. Whitmer then attacked Taven. Thomas checked on Page.

Back in the ring, Whitmer dropped elbows to the skull of the former TV champ. Knife Edge Chops all around. Hammer Throw by Whitmer. Whitmer did a lax cover that only drew a two. Whitmer wrapped Taven in the ropes and slapped the chest. Whitmer slapped Taven and sent him across the ring. Taven put on the brakes and kicked. Taven missed the Moonsault but connected with the Superkick. 1-2-no.

Whitmer blocked a Suplex. Standing Switch into a Snap Powerslam. 2 count. Fisherman’s Twisting Buster into a Fisherman’s Suplex. Taven barely kicked out. Taven blocked the Uranage and hit Trouble in Paradise. Time to pay the bills, again.

Taven went up top and waited. He missed the Crossbody but nailed the Backspring Enziguri. Taven went back up top but slipped. He recovered and nailed the Frog Splash!

Matt Taven vs The Romantic Touch

Matt was amused to see the masked man. Taven actually portrayed Touch, a few weeks back. Taven danced along with Touch. Code of Honor Hand Slap and hug. Touch tricked Taven by trying for a quick Roll Up. It ticked off Taven who swore he would never hug Touch again. He then did just that. Side Headlock Takeover by Taven. Touch with his own Side Headlock. Taven took the Side Headlock. Push Off into a Taven Shoulder Tackle. Taven did his best Rick Rude impression with the Bump and Grind. Arm Bar by Touch but Taven reversed it. Flying Back Elbow by Touch for a 2.

Touch threw hard punches to the face of Taven. Top Rope Moonsault by taven. Back Elbow by Taven. He faked out Touch and hit a Falcon Arrow, for a two. Touch blocked the Climax and hit a Belly to Belly Suplex. Hard stomps by Touch. Spin Kicks by Taven. Twisting Lionsault by Taven for a two plus. Kick by Touch. Touch with a Dropkick as Taven flew off the ropes. Touch wanted a Powerbomb but Taven blocked it. Taven nailed the Climax to move on.

Matt Taven vs Jay Lethal

Jay came out with Zaleezia and Truth Martini. There was a quick break before the match got rolling.

The match began in the ring but quickly went to the floor. Taven ran Lethal into the barricade. Jay was whipped into another area of the barricade. Running Boot by Matt. Scoop Slam, on the floor, by Matt. Truth looked ready to get involved but stayed back. The two competitors went in and out of the ring. Matt was sent into the barricade.

Back in the ring, Jay scored a two count. Matt held the ropes on a Whip and then hit a Springboard Dropkick to send Jay to the floor. Tope Con Hilo by Taven that brought a lot of loud respect from the fans. Zaleezie pitched Jay back in the ring. Matt yelled at her. Truth went for a Sneak Attack but it failed. Zaleezia charged, only to be sent into Truth. Tavin with a Spin Kick and Spinning Neckbreaker, off the ropes. Zaleezia carried Truth away from ringside. She so reminds me of Reggie Bennett from so many years ago.

Whip by Jay and a Step-up Enziguri. Lethal Combination by Lethal. 1-2-no. Jay went out and got the TV title belt. He was ready to smash it into Taven’s face but Matt ducked. Superkick! Matt climbed to the top but J. Diesel (head of security) tripped Taven. Lethal Injection by the TV Title Holder.

Jay Lethal vs Cedric Alexander
Golden Gauntlet Finals

Cedric rushed out and rolled up Jay. 2 count. Cedric punched away on the TV champ. Jay came back with a wild Dropkick. Time for one final break.

Cedric went for a Suicide Dive but Lethal move. Shoulder by Cedric into a Sunset Flip. 2 count. Jay with a Kneelift. Knife Edge Chops by Lethal. Cedric and Jay went into a series of back and forth hard punches. Snap Mare and Dropkick by Cedric. 2 count. Scoop Slam and Kneedrop by Cedric. 2 count. Whip by Cedric but he got flipped up and Crotched on the top rope.

Jay pitched Cedric out to the floor. Suicide Dive by Lethal. He started to go for a 2nd one but the fan chants of “One More Time” stopped him. Jay refuses to give the fans what they want. Jay went out and ran Cedric into the barricade. Kick by Lethal. He then threw Cedric back in. Ax Bomber by Jay. 1-2-not yet. Rear Chin Lock by Lethal

Jay called for Truth but Martini was pretty much laid out. Kick and Knife Edge Chop by Jay. Corner Butt Rush by Lethal. Jay climbed up top as the fans called for the Hail to the King.(Savage Elbow). He hopped down to deny the fans what they wanted. Jay blasted Cedric and rocked him with a European Uppercut. Whip by Lethal into a Forearm Smash. Cedric with a back kick and Springboard Tornado DDT.

Straight rights by both men. Lethal and Cedric then went for Knife Edge Chops. DDT by Lethal. RoH decided to take one more “final” breaks.

The two men fought from their knees. Cedric blocked a Bicycle Kick and Powerbombed Lethal. Cedric sat Lethal on the top rope but Jay fought out of the Superplex. Hail to the King! Could be…might be…No. Cedric blocked a Whip. Superkicks by Cedric. Jay hopped up and hit his own Superkick. Both men were down and stunned. Forearm Smashes by both men led to hard punches. Both men collapsed and the ref started the count. Cedric blasted Jay after they got up. Cedric flipped out of the Lethal Combination and Enziguried Jay as he went for the Lethal Injection. Running Corner Dropkick led to a Cedric Brainbuster. Lumbar Check!

So, Cedric Alexander won the Golden Gauntlet and will get a future World Title Shot! Michael Elgin came out onto the apron and clapped for the young man that he will soon face.
