WHAT HAPPENED, THIS WEEK, @ WWE RAW

Posted July 23rd, 2014 by jshannon

Battleground is in the books and it was a great show. Now, WWE is heading towards SummerSlam. The main event was put into place and it is going to be a monster war. HHH would announce who would face John Cena, at the end of the night.

HHH opened the show with a little talk with the fans. HHH said no one wanted to look him in the eye, today. Everyone is expecting HHH to “blow a gasket” because John Cena retained the title, on Sunday. HHH admitted that he was very angry, but he did have options. HHH joked about using social media to express his displeasure. HHH thought about firing everyone in the building, including the audience. HHH said he could also just relax and remember that, in the end, he always wins. HHH Guaran-damn-teed that John Cena would not be the champ, after SummerSlam. Who would get the chance at Cena?

Randy Orton arrived to talk with HHH. Of course, it was all about him. Randy whined that he was owed a rematch. Randy promised to beat Cena, at SummerSlam. HHH appreciated the confidence. HHH hadn’t made up his mind, but Randy was, right then, top of the list. HHH wanted someone to impress him before he decided who would get the ultimate shot. Randy went off on Kane for “not doing his job”.

The mention of the Big Red Monster brought him from the back. Kane hoped that he was being considered to face Cena. Kane was confident that he could beat Cena, if he wasn’t being Randy’s babysitter.

Roman Reigns then arrived to make his bid to face the Champ. Roman came through the crowd and got on the apron. He said no one wanted to see Kane vs Cena or Orton vs Cena. He did think everyone would like to see him face Cena. The crowd exploded with their approval of that idea. Roman hit the ring and went on the attack. HHH, Randy and Kane slid out of the ring. HHH put Roman in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match against Kane and Orton…now.

Randy Orton walked away from the ring. He started to come back in the ring but changed his mind.

Stephanie McMahon chatted with Eva Marie, Rosa Mendez, Alicia Fox and Cameron. These four women would face Nikki Bella, next. Stephanie told the girls to go show her something.

Cameron, Alicia Fox, Eva Marie and Rosa Mendes vs Nikki Bella
4-on-1 Handicap Match

Raw looked back to when Brie Bella quit the WWE and then slapped Stephanie. Nikki came out but stopped when she saw her sister in the front row. Stephanie came out and taunted Brie. Brie called Stephanie a “B*tch”. That made the Billion Dollar Princess turn and get up in Brie’s face. Brie snatched the microphone out of Stephanie’s hand and went off on her former boss. Stephanie eventually slapped Brie in the face. Brie was dragged away by security.

In the ring, the quartet of Divas just annihilated Nikki. It was just ridiculous. Fox with the Ax Kick to make it official.

Your Winners: Alicia Fox, Rosa Mendes, Cameron and Eva Marie
Raw Ranking: -2

Stephanie then stood over Nikki to mock her. Stephanie is determined to make Nikki quit.

Bo Dallas vs Damien Sandow

Sandow came out dressed as LeBron James. Jeez. Sandow with a silly rant about taking his talents back to Cleveland. Sandow also made fun of Bo’s grin.

The bell rang and Sandow clubbed away. Bo with a shot and Back Body Drop. La Bandera Clothesline sent Sandow to the floor. Sandow rocked Bo and pounded away. Suplex into a 2 count by Sandow. Small Package by Bo but it only brought him a two. Clothesline and Elbow Drop by Sandow. Rear Chin Lock by Sandow. Bo fought free and came off the ropes. Kitchen Sink into the Swish hand sign. Scoop Slam by Daien into the Elbow of Distain attempt (it missed). Bo-Dog!

Your Winner: Bo Dallas
Raw Ranking: 2.0
(I still think Bo should have won the I-C title, on Sunday)

Fozzy’s new album drops on Tuesday.

The Highlight Reel

It didn’t happen because the Wyatt Family attacked Jericho, in the locker room. The Wyatts did come out. Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan came out to a sea of blue lights. Bray welcomed everyone to the Highlight Reel. Bray said Jericho was indisposed, at the present time. Raw showed the assault, including a Sister Abigail into a locker. Bray teased Jericho that “Sooner or later, they all fall down”. The fans were actually pretty harsh towards Bray. Bray explained Jericho wasn’t there for the fans, but he was. Bray felt he could read the fans’ thoughts. Bray may have lost at Battleground, but the war was only getting started. Bray claimed to have created war. (Bray- was, Al Gore – Internet). Bray asked Chris if he knew who he was dealing with. Bray acknowledged he was the monster that people thought he was. “Society is my plaything”. Bray mentioned that chasing vengeance ends up with the chaser needing to dig two graves, one for the chased and the other for the chaser. Bray proclaimed that he would live forever.

In the back, the medics checked on the bleeding from Chris’ ear.

Flo Rida walked around backstage. He will perform, later. Oh, joy (sarcasm dripping).

The Miz vs Dolph Ziggler
Non-Title Match

Miz used some sneaky tricks to win the Intercontinental title on Sunday. He had slid out of the ring and everyone mistakenly thought he was eliminated. He waited until Dolph Ziggler threw out Sheamus to slide back in. He then dumped Dolph to take the Ivory Strap. Tonight, Dolph gets a bit of revenge…even if he didn’t get a shot at the strap.

Miz bailed out as the match got started. He had to take off his sunglasses. Dolph charged Miz, who bailed out, yet again. Dolh got fed up and came out to chase Miz. As they got back in the ring, Dolph caught Mis with a Thesz Press. Miz escaped to avoid any punches to the face. Open Hand Slap, to Miz’s chest, on the floor. Dolph pitched Miz in. Miz with a series of stomps. Dolph got out of the Back Drop Suplex and rolled up Miz for two. Heart Stopper Elbows by Dolph. Miz kept his face covered. Miz with a hard kick and a Rear Chin Lock. Rear Chin Lock by Miz but Dolph used the crowd’s energy to get to his feet. Miz went for a Kitchen Sink but Dolph with the Roll Up. 2 count. Miz missed the Full Body Clothesline. The ref started the count.

Dolph with a flurry of Clotheslines. Funk Neckbreaker by Dolph. Miz avoided the Famouser and Rolled up Dolph. 2 count, again. Miz couldn’t complete the Reality Check but did hit the Side Effect. Miz finally got the Figure Four. Dolph shrieked in pure agony. Dolph fought like crazy and finally got to the ropes.

Dolph kicked out of a second Figure Four and nailed the Famouser. Could be…might be…Denied. Dolph slapped his leg to get the circulation going again. Miz blocked the Zig Zag. Dolph blocked the Skull Crushing Finale. Miz covered up his face to avoid a Big Boot. That left him open for the Zig Zag!

Your Winner: Dolph Ziggler
Raw Ranking: 3.25

HHH chatted with Seth Rollins. He told Seth there was no reason to put him in the match, since Seth had the Money in the Bank briefcase. They discussed how Dean Ambrose kept messing things up. Cesaro came in and suggested that he should get the shot at Cena. Cesaro announced that he was no longer a “Heyman Guy”. He wanted to be a “HHH Guy”. Seth said he already held that position. HHH stepped in and asked Cesaro to finish the business with Dean Ambrose. Getting rid of Dean would definitely impress HHH.

A.J. Lee and Paige vs Emma and Natalya

Emma started against A.J.. Lee worked over the arm and went to the Hammerlock. Emma Back Elbowed free. Sliding Trip by Emma into a modified La Magistral Cradle. 2 count. Lee skipped around with Emma. German Suplex by Natalya. Sharpshooter! Paige with a tag. Lee hit the Shining Wizard. Black Widow! Tap Out!

Your Winner: A.J. Lee and Paige
Raw Ranking: 1.25

After the match, Paige attacked the Divas champ. This came out of nowhere. I foresee a submission match at SummerSlam (P.T.O. vs Black Widow). That would be a good match. Paige with repeated headbutts. She then tossed Lee out to the floor. Paige tossed A.J. into the barricade. Paige pushed A.J. into the ring post. Paige screamed that this was her house. Paige then threw Lee over the announce table. Paige shrieked that Lee should come on and bring the fight. Michael Cole called for help for the Divas champion. Paige then mocked Lee by skipping around the ring and up the ramp.

Fandango vs Zack Ryder (with the Slayers)

Who are the Slayers? That’s the new team name for Summer Rae and Layla. Works for me. Zack danced with the beautiful girls before coming down to the ring. They slapped Zack on the butt.

Zack with punches but Fandango answered with a High Dropkick. Clothesline by Fandango. Rear Chin Lock by Fandango. Kneelift by Fandango. Solid punch by Fandango. Face Plant by Zack. Double Knees by Long Island Iced Z. He missed a Missile Dropkick. Fandango with a Whip but missed the Corner Splash. Rough Ryder. 1-2-3. Fandango’s leg was on the bottom rope but Layla pushed the leg off before the ref saw it. The girls came in and kissed Zack. JBL compared Zack to Barney Fife.

Your Winner: Zack Ryder
Raw Ranking: 1.75

Renee Young introduced Flo Rida. He wanted to fight John Cena. Heath Slater came in and got up in Flo’s face. Heath pushed Flo, who laid him out.

Flo Rida Performance

Ok, this wasn’t wrestling and I’m not a big fan of his music. He did a couple of songs and the fans liked it. Stephanie McMahon was out to introduce the musician and his band. After the performance, Stephanie was approached by local cops, who arrested her for battery (on Brie Bella). After a long, drawn-out segment, Stephanie was taken out in handcuffs. Stephanie’s bodyguard almost got himself arrested for interference. In the back, Triple H tried to stop this. They threatened to arrest HHH, as well. HHH yelled for his lawyers to be called. Stephanie freaked out at the idea of going to jail. HHH tried to get Steph to calm down. He kept trying to insult the cops. HHH said he would be right behind Stephanie. The cop car drove off and the fans cheered. HHH went for his phone as Raw went to commercials.

HHH was on his phone trying to fix the situation with Stephanie. Joey Mercury stopped HHH and said he still needed to make a decision about the main event. HHH went off on how important family was and then reversed himself by talking about how it would take time to process her. He would make the decision and then head to the local pokey.

Ryback and Curtis Axel vs Big E and Kofi Kingston

Ryback and Big E went into the Collar and Elbow. They reached the ropes and the ref called for the break. Big E Steam Rolled Ryback and hit a Belly to Belly. Big E took out Axel. Spinebuster by Ryback. Axel got the tag and Face Washed E. Tag back to Ryback. Suplex by Big Hungry. 2 count.

Ryback blocked the tag to Kofi. Ryback clubbed the back of Big E. Ryback with an Overhead Belly to Belly Throw. Ryback set for the Meat Hook Clothesline but never got to deliver. Big E hit his own Clothesline. Tag to Kofi. Kofi rocked both opponents. Controlled Frenzy into the SOS. . Axel made the save. Pendulum Kick and Crossbody. Ryback rolled through and pinned Kofi.

Your Winners: Rybaxel (Ryback and Curtis Axel)
Raw Ranking: 2.5

Xavier Woods came out in an Ice Cream Vendor white suit. He told Kofi and Big E it was time to unite and take. Both seemed to agree with him. A new faction? WWE’s answer to MVP, Kenny King and Bobby Lashley?

HHH was still on the phone, trying to settle the issue with his wife.

Rusev (w/Lana) vs The Great Khali

Lana started doing her boring anti-American rant but was cut off by Khali’s arrival.

Rusev went after Khali’s back. Khali blasted Rusev and hit an Open Hand Slap to the massive chest of Rusev. Rusev tried fighting back but Khali with a Khali Khop and Big Boot. To the corner and Khali hit a series of Open Hand Slaps. Rusev with a Double Thrust but Khali came right back with another Khali Khop. Rusev hit a Thrust Kick after a Roundhouse to Khali’s shoulder. Accolade.

Your Winner (by submission): Rusev
Raw Ranking: 1.5

Lana finally came in and ordered Rusev to release the hold. She then put Rusev’s gold star medal back around his neck and the Russian flag unfurled from the ceiling.

Raw looked at Sheamus’ appearance on Royal Pains. He plays Jack Piper.

It was time for another fun Dust2Dust vignette. StarDust (Cody) was quoting the original Willy Womka and the Chocolate Factory. (one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time). Smile. They started talking about the Cosmic Key. Sounds like something out of a late 70s Cheech and Chong movies. Grin.

Dean Ambrose vs Cesaro
Special Challenge Match

Renee updated the fans that Stephanie was facing charges of Battery on Brie Bella, as well as resisting arrest.

To the ring and Cesaro worked over Dean’s bad shoulder. Kitchen Sink and La Bandera Clothesline by Dean. Both men ended up on the floor. Cesaro took control as they got back in the ring. Cesaro ran Dean’s shoulder into the ring post and then Suplexed Dean from the ropes to the floor. Cesaro with a wild stomp and Keylock. Dean refused to surrender. Dean punched over his shoulder to hit Cesaro in the face. Cesaro took Dean back down. Dean got to his feet and slugged away. Cesaro rocked Dean with a wild Haymaker. Dean with the Double Trip and wild flurry of punches. Dean threw Cesaro to the floor. As Dean went for a Tope Suicida, Cesaro nailed a European Uppercut. Break time.

Cesaro was still working over the arm. Dean with a Jwabreaker. Dean missed the Springboard Clothesline. Cesaro with a German Suplex. Cesaro put Dean on the top rope. Big Boot nearly sent Dean tumbling backwards off the turnbuckle. Dean blocked a Superplex by using a Headbutt. Cesaro’s shoulder was hurt. Flying Crossbody and punches from Dean. Shoulder Thrust and Face Wash by Ambrose. Tornado DDT by Dean, off the Whip. 1-2-no.

Hammerlock Crossface by Dean. Dean fought out and Low Bridged Cesaro. Suicide Dive by Dean. Dean threw Cesaro back in the ring. Teeter Totter Clothesline by Dean for a two count. Cesaro snapped the arm over the ropes. Cesaro with a wicked Clothesline but Dean kicked out at two.

Dean with the Boots. Dean went for a Moonsault but Cesaro tripped Dean into the Sullivan Tree of Woe. Cesaro stomped away to the point of almost getting disqualified. Dean sent Cesaro into the post, three times. Dean took a steel chair and cracked it across the shoulder, drawing the DQ.

Your Winner (by Disqualification): Cesaro
Raw Ranking: 2.75

Cesaro took off to avoid the insanity from Den Ambrose.

In the back, Renee tried to interview HHH. She asked if HHH should be with his wife. The look he gave her was bone-chilling. The announcement is up next.

HHH’s Huge Announcement

Triple H was ready to bring out John Cena’s opponent. Randy Orton came out but got attacked by Roman Reigns. The two fought through the crowd and to the back. Paul Heyman then came out to talk with HHH. He said Plan A (Randy Orotn) seems to have failed. Plan B (Seth Rollins) is too involved with Dean Ambrose to be effective. So, he presented Plan C – Brock Lesnar! I’d heard the rumors for several weeks, including a promotion video of Brock vs Cena but it wasn’t official until now. Heyman and Lesnar got in the ring and Paul talked about how fantastic Lesnar is. Eventually, they shook on the deal. So, it will be John Cena vs Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Title…at SummerSlam!

Peace
