Ring of Honor has a new World Champion, Michael Elgin. I am so glad I was wrong with my prediction on that match.
Larry Mercer was our host, this week. He made it official that Elgin was the new champ. The entire show, this week, was a look at Michael Elgin.
Roll the opening montage!
A great music video showed some of Elgin’s most damaging moves. That led to Elgin talking about growing up with wrestling. Elgin went to his first wrestling match around age 4. Elgin said his total focus has been wrestling. Tyson Dux discussed befriending Elgin, as well as being his trainer.
Tyson Dux vs “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin
It was Teacher vs Student. Code of Honor Handshake. This was from Raising the Bar. Collar and Elbow. The two went around the ropes. Dux with a Side Headlock. Push Off into a Shoulder Block. Neither man budged. Universal into a Snap Powerslam by Elgin. Forearm Smash and Whip by Elgin. Back Elbow by Dux. Elgin missed a Corner Splash. Dux with a Stall Suplex (which is pretty darn impressive, considering Elgin’s size). Elgin hopped right up and did the very same Stall Suplex to Dux. Elgin held Dux up for what seemed like forever. Incredible. Time for a commercial break.
Dux stumbled out to the apron. Elgin got on the ropes and went to Suplex Dux from the apron. Dux escaped and snapped the leg on the ropes. The two then went to throwing bombs at each other. Dux stomped on Elgin’s knee. Knife Edge Chop-a-thon by both men. Elgin fought out of a Dragon Screw Leg Whip. Dropkick to Elgin’s knee. Elgin came back with a Decapitation Clothesline.
Go Behind but Dux Elbowed free. Leg Sweep by Dux. Elgin blocked the Cloverleaf. High Bridge Germans by Elgin. Dux avoided the Buckle Bomb but fell to the Samoa Joe One-Arm Corner Uranage. Dux popped Elgin on the ropes. Dux wanted the Superplex but Elgin sat down. Dux would not be denied. Superplex into a Fisherman’s Buster. Dang, that was just freaking impressive. Dux and Elgin went to the apron. Dux tried for a Suplex but failed. Dux fought out of a Powerbomb but did take a Dropkick. Running Powerbomb to the barricade, by Elgin. Elgin threw Dux in the ring. Dux caught Elgin with a Running Death Valley Driver…to the corner. The fans were right with their chant of “That was Awesome”. Crippler Crossface by Elgin. Buckle Bomb into the Spinning Sit Out Powerbomb aka Elgin Bomb!

Elgin said he needed to focus and get better. A series of video tapes led to Elgin learning about Ring of Honor. Jimmy Jacobs talked about the lengths to which Elgin would go to try and get on a RoH show (driving numerous hours and such). Truth Martini talked about starting Elgin’s career in RoH, along with Roderick Strong. Elgin thanked both Truth and Strong for helping to mold his character and career.
The Replay of Best in the World is still available. It was a rocking show, bell to bell. Well worth the money, I’d say.
Michael Elgin (w/Truth Martini) vs Davey Richards for the Ring of Honor World Title was the next area that Ring of Honor looked at in the career of Michael Elgin.
Elgin, Kevin Kelly and Truth discussed the wild match. Kevin Kelly told how Nigel McGuinness got so into the match. Jacobs said he was trying to take a nap but the fans were so loud that he couldn’t sleep. Truth felt it was incredible to be there. This was the match that took Elgin to the next level. Highlights of the match were scattered through this interview segment.
Michael Elgin vs Kyle O’Reilly
Michael Elgin battled Kyle O’Reilly in a monster match. Elgin with a Backfist. Elgin fought out of the Guillotine, twice. Kyle got the feet up and then hit a wild Spinning DDT into the Guillotine. It seemed impossible for Elgin to power out but Elgin rolled Kyle over. Davey Richards came down to watch the match. Elgin powered his way up. He ran Kyle’s back into the corner. Kyle refused to let go of the Guillotine. Elgin with a Suplex Bomb for two. Ring of Honor took another break.
Elgin kicked at Kyle, including a nasty kick to the face. Buckle Bomb by Elgin. Kyle countered the Elgin Bomb into a backwards Victory Roll and Fisherman’s German. Cross Armbreaker by Kyle. Elgin lifted Kyle but Kyle with a Sunset Flip for two. Kyle with hard kicks to the chest but Elgin No Sold them. Elgin Hulked Up and stood nose-to-nose with Kyle. The two threw wild Forearms at each other. Kyle definitely got the worst of it. It led to a Slap Fest. Kyle got a ton of Forearms in and a few kicks. Kyle with a wicked Crescent Kick but Elgin with the Decapitator. Jumping Tombstone but Kyle got his foot on the rope. Truth was about to lose his mind, on the floor. The two men went to the apron. Kyle slid back in the ring and nailed an Enziguri. Kyle went for the Sunset Bomb but Elgin blocked it. Back Drop Suplex to put Elgin from the apron to the floor. Kyle with an incredible Cactus Dropkick (Apron to Floor).
“This is Wrestling!” rose from the crowd. Kyle went up top and flew. Elgin caught him and nailed the Buckle Bomb. Elgin Bomb!

Truth and Elgin were back to talk about Elgin’s career. Truth called Elgin a monster. Elgin discussed being picked on, as a kid. It was time to focus on the Battle of the Beasts…Elgin vs Rhino!
Michael Elgin vs Rhino
Truth tried to get Elgin to step down from this match. Elgin refused to Step Down from anyone. Elgin blasted Rhino and the Man-Beast came fighting back. Elgin with hard kicks and clubbing blows. Rhino tossed Elgin onto the apron. Springboard Shoulder by Elgin. Rhino sent Elgin into the barricade. Roderick Strong came out to watch the match. Rhino sent Elgin to the barricade, again.
Back in the ring, Elgin took down Rhino with a Top Rope Crossbody. Belly to Belly Throw by Rhino. Gore! was called for. Elgin side stepped it and rolled up Rhino for a two. The two went off on each other with chops and kicks. Spinebuster by Rhino. 2 count. Rhino stomped away on Elgin. The crowd was split in their support. Whip by Rhino. Rhino choked Elgin on the ropes. Short Arm Clothesline by Rhino. Rear Chin Lock with planted knee by Rhino.
Jumping Enziguri by Elgin. Both men were down. Truth was frustrated. The two threw wild punches, which Elgin got the better of. Corner Clotheslines by Elgin. Bicycle Kick by Elgin. Black Hole Slam by Elgin. Rhino fought out of the Elgin Bomb. Spinning Forearm into a German Suplex by Elgin. 1-2-no.
Rhino blocked a Powerbomb. Rhino with a Shoulder Thrust into a modified TKO. Roderick got on the apron to complain. Rhino set for the Gore!. Truth got in the ring and begged Rhino to stop. Elgin hit Rhino that took out Truth. Gore by Elgin into the Elgin Bomb. 1-2-3!

Honor Roll Ranking: 3.5
Kevin Kelly said no one should ever tell Michael Elgin that he can’t do something. Elgin will always find a way to do what no one expects him to be able to do. Jacobs agreed that Elgin was a master of the impossible. Elgin explained that he had to always do more. Jacobs said Elgin was always in Gear Ten. Kevin Kelly finished by suggesting Michael Elgin may well be the greatest wrestler in Ring of Honor history.
The show ended with another music video of Elgin’s most devastating moves. Michael explained he was there to make people enjoy wrestling in an all-new light. Elgin said all the losses in his life were worth it because of what he has done in wrestling. Amen.
