Crystal Ball – Slammiversary, 2014

Jay Shannon draws upon all his predictive abilities to try and figure out the winners and losers of an upcoming major wrestling event.

So, this is TNA’s equivalent of SummerSlam (Bound for Glory gets the Wrestlemania-level spot). TNA is bringing out the big guns for this show. The show will be coming live from the University of Texas at Arlington (Arlington being roughly halfway between Dallas and Fort Worth). Those in attendance will also get the chance to spend the day at Six Flags over Texas (always a favorite of mine, as a child). So let’s take a look at the matches and I’ll do my best to try and sort all this out. Thankfully, this one is going to be so good that I am going to have a difficult time picking the winners.

Hall of Fame Announcement:

As I mentioned in my TNA Recap, the honor should go to someone like A.J. Styles, Jeff Jarrett or Ric Flair. Since all 3 have pretty much cut ties with TNA, it is almost impossible to believe that they would be inducted. I’ve really thought this one through since it was announced that someone else was going into the Hall of Fame. There are only a handful of TNA Originals still around: James Storm, Bobby Roode, Gail Kim and Eric Young. Of those four, I really think TNA is going to put in the first Knockout Champion into the Hall. That would be, of course, Gail Kim. The lovely Canadian has held championships all around the world, including both in TNA and WWE. She’s held the singles Knockout title on 3 occasions and even had a run with the Knockout Tag Belts (w/Madison Rayne). Being the first Knockout Champ, it only makes sense that she would be the first female to go into the TNA Hall of Fame.

Predicted “Winner”: Gail Kim

Von Erich 3G vs ?

Ross and Marshall Von Erich, seconded by their father, Kevin, will make their TNA debut. It hasn’t’ been announced who they will battle. That really doesn’t matter. This is Texas and they are Von Erichs. There is just no way that the boys lose. Since the BroMans aren’t scheduled to fight anyone, I expect them to do the “job” to Fritz’ grandsons. I do think it will be an above average match.

Predicted Winners: Von Erich 3G
Predicted Grade: 2.75 out of a possible 5

Austin Aries vs Kenny King

I’m just not the biggest fan of Kenny King. He’s a decent wrestler but his character annoys me. I have to set that aside to give a fair prediction of this match. I think this one could actually steal the show. TNA needs MVP’s forces to build momentum to push the Main Event (more on that later). If this was any other time, Aries would destroy King, most likely with the Brainbuster. I think the end of this one will see Aries go for the Brainbuster, only to have King reverse it into his Royal Flush finisher. King draws first blood for his group.

Predicted Winner: Kenny King
Predicted Grade: 3.75

Willow vs Magnus

Willow will have Abyss in his corner. Magnus will bring Bram to the party. There is some question as to whether is will be Jeff Hardy or Willow that shows up to fight. (I’m hoping for Hardy). I just think this one is going to get thrown out. They will both put on a wild show but Bram and Abyss will not be able to sit on the sidelines and just watch.

Predicted Winner: Match Thrown Out
Predicted Grade: 2.5

“Cowboy” James Storm vs Ken Anderson

Storm told Ken to bring his cowboy boots for a tough fight. I have a feeling this will be a vicious war that may feature the spilling of the first blood of the night. Since Storm is an Original and Anderson dominated his last feud, with Samuel Shaw, I’m giving this one to Storm.

Predicted Winner: “Cowboy” James Storm
Predicted Grade: 2.5

Bobby Lashley vs Samoa Joe

This is a definite “Gorilla Match” (Immovable Object vs Unstoppable Force). Both men have impressive move sets. They are likely going to deploy every weapon in their arsenals at each other. I see the ending being something like: Joe gets Lashley set for the Muscle Buster but Bobby flips out. He then rocks Joe with hard punches and put down the big Samoan with the Dominator.

Predicted Winner: Bobby Lashley
Predicted Grade: 2.25

Manik vs Tigre Uno vs Davey Richards vs Eddie Edwards vs Crazy Steve vs Sanada
Ladder Match for the X-Division Championship

This one makes no sense to me. Instead of having The Wolves defend the tag belts, they are thrown into this match to off-set “Money in the Bank”. I think this is going to be a decent battle but I just don’t think TNA is ready to scrap Sanada’s push, just yet. Expect some brutal Ladder spots but, in the end, Sanada will scale the ladder to retain.

Predicted Winner: Sanada
Predicted Grade: 3.25

Angelina Love vs Gail Kim
Knockout Championship Match

Since I feel Gail is going in the Hall of Fame, Angelina and Velvet Sky are going to be out to spoil Gail’s big night. I expect Gail to put on a wrestling clinic but the numbers are just going to be too much for Gail to overcome. Especially if Stiffler is the ref, Gail is going home with only the knowledge that she’s going into the Hall of Fame. Spray to the face leads to the Botox Injection.

Predicted Winner: Angelina Love
Predicated Grade: 1.75

There is a long-shot that the Spray could backfire and Gail would win. I want that but don’t think it’s going to happen…at least not this time.

Ethan Carter III vs Bully Ray
Texas Death Match

Ethan has been on a major push since he came to the company. Time for him to take a fall. Ethan just isn’t cut out to be doing a Texas Death Match, Bully is. I do think the Bully Ray will scratch another name off his Tables List.

Predicted Winner: Bully Ray
Predicted Grade: 2.5

MVP was injured and is out of the World Title Match. To try and salvage the Main Event, TNA has announced that the winners of the Lashley/Joe and King/Aries matches will go into the Steel Cage to face Eric Young for the World Title. That just strengthens my earlier predictions.

Eric Young vs ? vs ?
Triple Threat Steel Cage Match for the World Title

My original thought was that MVP would defeat Eric to set up the war between MVP and Dixie Carter. That could have led to Ethan Carter III winning the X-Division title to set MVP vs EC3 for the World Title at Bound For Glory. All that is out the window, for now, due to the injury to MVP.

So, Eric goes into a Steel Cage against two unknowns. I’d just about bet my beloved horse, Lacey, that Eric gets to fight Lashley and King. Eric is going to get seriously brutalized during this wild battle. Kenny King is going to screw up, as he often does, and fall to Eric Young. That could actually lead to a good storyline of King being thrown out of MVP’s little group. King could then go on to win the X-Title and cash in against MVP, who will beat Eric, after he recovers. But, on Sunday…

Predicted Winner: Eric Young
Predicted Grade: 3.25

Final Thoughts:

It’s always dangerous when a main event gets changed just days before a big show. Eric and the two men that end up in the ring with him are going to have to step it up beyond belief to overcome the disappointment of losing E.Y. vs MVP. I hope that they can pull it off. TNA really needs this one to be a super success. It has the potential to do that. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
