Crystal Ball: Extreme Rules 2014

Jay Shannon returns with another series of predictions for a major wrestling event.

Welcome back to the Crystal Ball. Took a little vacation from this column for New Orleans and work. I’m back to try and figure out the winners and losers of the WWE’s follow up to the excellent Wrestlemania show. I’ll have my new little laptop fired up and plugged in to the WWE Network to check out this little outing. So, let’s get down to some predictions.

El Torito vs Hornswoggle
Wee-L-C Match

Predictions: Thank the stars that this is on the Pre-Show, which no one really cares that much about. This feud is just about useless. Hornswoggle goes from being a leprechaun to a mini-rocker and picks a fight with a midget in a bull suit. You can’t make this silliness up. As far as who is going to win, you have to figure that the little bull is going to take this one. I do know, thanks to a good friend of mine, that Hornwoggle and El Torito won’t be the only “Small People” at Extreme Rules. They might make a difference in the match but I’m still going with El Torito to do his thing and win.

Predicted Winner: El Torito
Predicted Score: 1.0 (at best)

Jack Swagger vs Rob Van Dam vs Cesaro

Predictions: Cesaro is on a massive push, right now. You know Jack is going into the Cesaro Swing. RVD might end up there, as well. I’d just about bet the farm that Cesaro takes this one.

Predicted Winner: Cesaro
Predicted Scote: 2.25

Alexander Rusev vs Xavier Woods and R-Truth
2-on-1 Handicap Match

Predictions: I think Woods and Truth are the ones that are going to be handicapped in this match. Rusev really needs a dominant showing to set him on the path to dominance. Woods and Truth are only a minor stepping stone to bigger and better things. I expect him to go after the US Title in the next few weeks. He might even jump past that almost meaningless strap and go after the I-C Strap.

Your Winner (in a serious Squash): Alexander Rusev
Predicted Score: 1.5

Paige vs Tamina Snuka
Divas Title Match

Predictions: I love this match. Paige is really great, especially considering her youth and minimal experience. Snuka is the daughter of a Hall of Famer that received fantastic training at the Wild Samoans training facility. Snuka really deserves a run with the title but Extreme Rules won’t be the night for her to take the strap. Paige will use the Paige Turner and then clamp on the Scorpion to force Snuka to tap out.

Your Winner (by submission): Paige
Predicted Score: 2.0

Big E vs Bad News (Wade) Barrett
Intercontinental Title Match

Predictions: It’s time for Big E to drop the I-C title and take a new path for awhile. I would rather it be someone like Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins but Barrett will do. Bill Hammer Elbow and Barrett is on the road to facing Roman Reigns. I just sense a future storyline where Roman and Dean meet in a unification match to try and split up The Shield, but that’s for another day. Today, Barrett becomes the I-C Champ, again.

Predicted Winner: Bad News Barrett
Predicted Grade: 2.0

John Cena vs Bray Wyatt
Steel Cage Match

Predictions: This one has been a tough call for me. I don’t think the cage is going to stop Bray from bringing his boys to the party. They are likely going to hide under the ring and come out at the proper moment. While I am really bothered by the direction the Bray Wyatt is going with the psuedo-religious spin and the manipulation of the youth stuff, I think having Cena end the feud, now, would be foolish. Somehow, Cena gets screwed and Bray lives to torment another day.

Predicted Winner: Bray Wyatt
Predicted Score: 3.5

Daniel Bryan vs Kane
WWE World Title Match

Predictions: So, Daniel goes into this match all beat to Hell. It should be easy pickings for the Big Red Monster. If you believe that, I have some tropical property for you in the middle of the Nevada Desert. There is absolutely no way on this planet that Kane takes the strap. Daniel is likely going to hold the strap until at least Summerslam or more likely until Survivor Series. I could see a Survivor Series Gauntlet, where Daniel has to face Batista (assuming he’s still around), Randy Orton and HHH…Evolution. Then, I could see him dropping the strap to Big Dave. Sunday night, Daniel goes home with the gold and the pretty wife…lucky stiff.

Predicted Winner: Daniel Bryan
Predicted Grade: 3.25

The Shield (Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns) vs Evolution (Randy Orton, Triple H and Batista)
Six Man Tag Team Match

Predictions: I think this one is going to come down to Ric Flair. Expect him to come out with The Shield. It will all be a trap as Flair will eventually turn on The Shield and prove he is still The Dirtiest Player in the Game. Considering every single member of Evolution lost at Wrestlemania, they are going to come back and give the “Young Pups” a spanking. It’s going to be a hard-hitting match but, in the end, Flair will turn on his charges and Dean Ambrose will end up getting pinned. At the next PPV, expect this feud to divide up into 3 individual matches: Batista vs Roman Reigns, Triple H vs Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose vs Randy Orton. On that night, The Shield will likely dominate. Sunday just isn’t going to be a good night form the Hounds of Justice. They are going to get neutered by Evolution.

Predicted Winners: Evolution
Predicted Grade: 3.75

In Conclusion:

Honestly, this is going to be a lower level Par-per-View/WWE Network event. I’ll have it up and running, if I can get he new laptop to accept the log-in for WWE Network. I definitely wouldn’t plop down the $40 or so that my local cable company wants for it.
