CRYSTAL BALL: NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS 2013

Posted September 15th, 2013 by jshannon

Jay Shannon draws upon all his predictive abilities to try and figure out the winners and losers of an upcoming major wrestling event.

Time for all the title holders to be trotted out for a series of matches. The Intercontinental title (held by Curtis Axel) won’t actually be defended. Axel and his manager, Paul Heyman, will be involved in a high-profile bout that I will discuss in a bit. On to a look at Night of Champions, 2013.

Titus O’Neil and Darren Young (Prime Time Players) vs Jimmy and Jey Uso vs Brodus Clay and Tensai (Tons of Funk) vs Jack Swagger and Antonio Cesaro (The Real Americans) vs 3MB (members to be determined at time of bout)

Tag Team Turmoil Match to determine the number one contenders to the tag titles

This is going to happen during the Pre-Show. Two teams will begin and then a new team will enter as one is eliminated. It would have been nice if they would have thrown the Wyatt Family into the mix, but they didn’t. I’m pretty sure 3MB and Tons of Funk will go out early in this one. The Usos have had several high-profile matches with The Shield, so I doubt that they will make it to the end. That leaves the Prime Time Players and the Real Americans. Since Cesaro and Swagger haven’t been doing too well, as of late, I’m putting my money on Titus and Darren to come in around the middle of this chaotic mess and survive to go against Rollins and Reigns, later on. More on that, later.

Predicted Winners: The Prime Time Players
Predicted Grade: 3.0 out of a possible 5

Dean Ambrose vs Dolph Ziggler
United States Championship Match

Dolph got this match at the last minute. Dolph has been one of the targets of the Triple H Regime, recently. Since The Shield are the Golden Boys of HHH, currently, I really expect that Dean will retain. I do expect this match to be excellent. The only thing that might mess it up would be if the other members of The Shield were to get involved.

Predicted Winner: Dean Ambrose
Predicted Grade: 3.75

A.J. Lee (c) vs Natalya vs Brie Bella vs Naomi
Fatal Four Way for the Divas Championship

A Triple Threat match between Naomi, Natalya and Brie was interrupted by A.J. Lee. The three women, who were trying to determine the number one contender, went to Stephanie McMahon to complain. Stephanie decided that A.J. must be afraid of the three women so she decided to punish Lee for messing up the contender’s match. She put A.J. in a Fatal Four Way Match against all three women.

While I hate A.J. being champion, I figure that she is going to keep the Butterfly Belt after this one is all said and done. In a straight fight where the best woman (no, I did NOT say Diva) were to win, I think Naomi would take the strap. I expect Layla, Alicia Fox and/or Aksana to get involved and help Lee keep her title.

Predicted Winner: A.J. Lee
Predicted Grade: 1.0

Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns vs winner of Tag Team Turmoil Match
Unified Tag Team Championship Match

This one isn’t officially on the WWE website but Michael Cole explained, on Monday Night Raw, that this match would take place. If it does, I expect the Prime Time Players to square off with The Shield. It’s really time for Seth and Roman to drop the straps but it’s not likely to happy as long as The Shield are serving as HHH’s personal Flying Monkeys. This one may be a good match but the fans aren’t going to be happy.

Predicted Winners: Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns
Predicted Grade: 2.5

Alberto Del Rio vs Rob Van Dam
World Title Match

RVD now has Ricardo Rodriguez as his mouthpiece. That will have little to no effect on this match, I think. I could see ADR lay out Ricardo, very early on. This match is going to steal the show. If Cody Rhodes were still active, I would say RVD wins and then Damien uses the “Money in the Bank” to take the title. Since Cody is currently “Fired”, Damien will stay in the back and Del Rio will somehow survive RVD’s challenge and move on to his next challenger.

Predicted Winner: Alberto Del Rio
Predicted Grade: 4.0

C.M. Punk vs Curtis Axel and Paul Heyman
2-on-1 Handicap Elimination Match

Paul Heyman turned his back on Punk back at Money in the Bank. Heyman sent Brock Lesnar to destroy Punk, which almost happened. Punk did manage to survive and now he’s ready to continue his vendetta against Heyman and his group. This m atch has a unique little twist. If Punk were to eliminate Axel, Heyman would be forced to face Punk…or lose his spot in WWE. This one is so predictable. Punk will actually destroy Axel in a great match. As Punk gets ready to go after Paul, Brock Lesnar rushes out to put a major beat down on Punk. Paul, being the sleazy little Walrus that we all know and love (to hate), will “pick the bones” and pin the knocked out Punk. I would almost bet my sidekick cat (currently being called “Boomer”) that something along those lines will happen.

Predicted Winner: Paul Heyman
Predicted Grade: 3.5

Randy Orton vs Daniel Bryan
WWE TItle Match

This is a rematch from SummerSlam. Daniel Bryan had beaten John Cena in an epic war. After the match, Triple H hit The Pedigree on Daniel. HHH was the Special Guest Ref for the Bryan vs Cena title match. HHH then invited The Viper into the ring to take the “Gimme” title win. Randy was then set solidly as “the New Face of the WWE”. He has The Shield as his “muscle” and HHH as his benefactor. I expect Big Show to be thrown into this mix, somehow. That is going to lead to a future Big Show vs Daniel Bryan feud. Orton will move forward to a series of battles with The Miz, Dolph Ziggler or (hopefully) the returning Cody Rhodes. Randy will likely retain until Wrestlemania when he will likely face either C.M. Punk or the returning John Cena.

Predicted Winner: Randy Orton
Predicted Grade: 4.0

In Conclusion:

Yes, I feel that everyone will leave this show with their titles intact. That sucks but I just can’t see anyone losing their titles. If Kofi Kingston were going against Curtis Axel for the title, that title would go back to the former champ, Kofi. It just makes no sense to switch any of the titles with the current set of storylines in place. I so hope that I’m wrong. The only one that mightchange would be the Divas title. The reasoning for that might be to push Season Two of Total Divas. We will see.

Peace
