Crystal Ball: Money in the Bank, 2013

Jay Shannon draws upon all his predictive powers to look at the winners and losers of a major upcoming wrestling event.

Money in the Bank is the next offering from the WWE. John Cena is fighting Mark Henry. 2 future title shots will be on the line in the match that brings the Pay Per View its name. This one’s not going to be an easy one to figure out but I’m ready to give it my best shot.

Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins (The Shield) vs Jimmy and Jey Uso
World Tag Team Title Match
(Pre-Show Match)

Backstory:

Reigns and Rollins ended the title run of Team Hell No (Daniel Bryan and Kane). The Usos won a recent number one contender match to earn this shot. The Usos (along with Christian) did defeat the full Shield trio on a recent Smackdown.

Prediction:

I don’t think The Shield is anywhere close to being out of steam, just yet. I expect Rollins and Reigns to get blasted for more of the match, only to come back and score the pin.

Predicted Winners: Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns
Predicted Grade: 2.5 out of a possible 5

A.J. Lee vs Kaitlyn
Divas Title Match

Backstory:

A.J. defeated Kaitlyn after playing some major mind games with the former champ. Kaitlyn has endured a lot of humiliation from Lee.

Prediction:

I really don’t much care for the whole Divas Division. The women’s division is at its lowest level ever. Well, since this is all about predictions, I will go with the champion to retain.

Predicted Winner: A.J. Lee
Predicted Grade: .5

Chris Jericho vs Ryback

Backstory:

Ryback was upset at losing to John Cena. Jericho came up and taunted Ryback, calling him CryBack. Ryback wanted to beat the daylights out of the loud-mouthed Jericho. Vickie Guerrero and Brad Maddox set up this match.

Prediction:

Honestly, Jericho should have been in one of the Money in the Bank matches. He is being totally wasted in this little battle. Ryback is definitely on the slide. I think it will continue in this one. Jericho will nail the Code Breaker and take the win. After the match, Ryback will go berserk and beat down Jericho.

Predicted Winner: Chris Jericho
Predicted Grade: 2.0

Curtis Axel vs The Miz
Intercontinental Title Match

Backstory:

Curtis, the son of the legendary “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig, took the I-C strap on Father’s Day. He defeated both Miz and Wade Barrett in a Triple Threat match. Axel has already taken down Barrett and now he goes one on one with The Miz.

Prediction:

Axel has already defeated Miz, a few times, in various house shows. I just don’t think Axel will lose on Sunday. I think Axel is going to go through all comers, at least until he runs into C.M. Punk.

Predicted Winner: C.M. Punk
Predicted Grade: 3.75

Alberto Del Rio vs Dolph Ziggler
World Title Match

Backstory:

Del Rio took advantage of Dolph’s concussion to take the World title. Dolph has been chomping at the bit to get his rematch.

Prediction:

Dolph is in the middle of a face turn. He needs a little more time to get to Full Face Status. The best way for that to happen is for him to get ripped off in this match. I really expect Del Rio to retain his title.

Predicted Winner: Alberto Del Rio
Predicted Grade: 3.5

Rob Van Dam vs Daniel Bryan vs C.M. Punk vs Sheamus vs Randy Orton vs Christian
Money in the Bank All-Stars Match (WWE Title Contract)

Backstory: Kane is out of the match, due to the attack by the Wyatt Family.

Prediction:

This one is going to be wild. I expect Brock Lesnar and/or Paul Heyman to come out and screw up Punk’s chance. I would imagine this match will set up Punk vs Lesnar for SummerSlam. Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton will likely cancel each other out. Since this show is in Philly, I’m going with the somewhat obvious choice…Rob Van Dam. RVD and Cena had a fantastic battle, some time back at ECW One Night Stand (the original). I think Cena vs RVD II would tear the house down.

Predicted Winner: Rob Van Dam
Predicted Grade: 4.25

Dean Ambrose vs Cody Rhodes vs Damien Sandow vs Antonio Cesaro vs Wade Barrett vs Fandango vs Jack Swagger
Money in the Bank World Title Contract Match

Backstory: N/A

Prediction:

This match is one of the toughest for me to call. I can’t see them pushing Dean Ambrose any harder than they already are. Rhodes and Sandow seem on the brink of a feud, so they will likely cost each other the shot at the World title. Fandango is a great wrestler but he is just not ready to go after the World title. I really think Swagger is going to overcome it all to repeat as a Money in the Bank winner.

Predicted Winner: Jack Swagger
Predicted Grade: 4.0

John Cena vs Mark Henry
WWE Title Match

Backstory:

Mark Henry came out to announce his retirement. It was all a ploy to draw Cena in. When Cena went for a hug, Mark planted him with the World’s Strongest Slam.

Prediction:

Cena is going to take one Hell of a beating. In the end, I think Cena is going to shock everyone by nailing the Attitude Adjustment and slapping on the STF to force Mark to tap out. I see an outside chance that the winner of the Money in the Bank match might rush down and attack Cena, post match.

Predicted Winner: John Cena
Predicted Grade: 3.0

Final Thoughts:

This is a lead-in to SummerSlam. As such, I think the Punk vs Lesnar match will be set. I also think Daniel Bryan vs Kane may also come out of this one. Dean Ambrose will likely find his next challenger from Money in the Bank. I don’t expect anything earth-shattering to come out of this one…unless RVD comes out and takes the WWE title off John Cena.

Peace
