Fox uncovered the plans for one of cable’s worst kept secrets on Tuesday, as they announced the launch of “Fox Sports 1”, which the company hopes will reach the heights of sports-only channels such as ESPN.

With the channel launching on August 17th, the UFC will also debut on the channel, and according to Sports Illustrated, with be a mainstay on the channel. Plans call for UFC and FS1 to run 12 events on Wednesdays between the launch date and the end of the year. These events will run in the prime time hours of 8-11 pm, and will serve to avoid programming clashes with NASCAR and College football, which FS1 also plans to carry.

Other programming plans for the channel include “UFC Tonight”, “Fox Sports Live”, as well as college basketball, MLB, soccer, and UFC prelim events. Fs1 will be replacing Speed Channel, which is heavily devoted to motorsports.
