APTER THOUGHTS: A VERY EARLY “MATCH OF THE YEAR” UNTIL …

Posted January 7th, 2013 by Bill Apter

I cannot give enough applause to both CM Punk and Ryback for the sensational “Tables, Ladders, and Chairs” match on WWE RAW tonight. It was a Pay-Per-View quality bout and there is no question about that. If you are a Ryback “doubter” tonight’s match may have made you see him in a different light.

As much as I thoroughly loved this “TLC” encounter, I must state I hated the interference from The Shield. It took away from one of the most exciting moments the fans had hoped to happen and that was Ryback cleanly winning Punk’s WWE championship.

I watch the crowd as well as the match. Everyone was on their feet when Ryback grasped the belt but when the lights went off the jeers had already commenced.

I guess I was hoping that after Ryback eliminated The Shield that somehow he would climb the ladder and get the belt. That was the match ending I think most of us were looking for, wasn’t it?

Again, great match WWE but you need to keep The Shield out of it during a five-star-match like this one!

What? Ryback winning cleanly? You have to be kidding. That would have been terrible. Ryback vs Rock doesn’t have nearly as much interest as Punk vs Rock. Why in the world would that be booked?

I loved the match but hated the ending. However, if done right, it helps set things up for down the line. I see VKM barring the Shield from ringside at the Rumble but Lesnar interferes to cost the Rock, setting up WM match between those 2 with Ryback winning Rumble and then winning at WM. 2nd part may not happen but I hope 1st does.
