NWA Ring Warriors Battle of the Belts Update: Cage Match Out; Russian Chain 4-Corners Weapons Match In!

The feud between NWA National Heavyweight Champion Chance Prophet and the Tokyo Monster Kahagas is no longer confined to the Sunshine State, following the recent backstage incident between the two in Thomasville, NC on an NWA DAWG show (see video: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=2906523938963).

Following the Saturday night St. Patrick’s Day attack, Prophet issued this video statement concerning their March 29th match in Fort Lauderdale at “Battle of the Belts” for NWA Ring Warriors. Originally scheduled for a cage match, Prophet has thrown a monkey wrench into the works by citing his championship prerogative to change the rules without regard to the NWA Executive Director, Board of Directors or local promoters. Claiming a cage match would be too tame for he and Kahagas, Prophet has chose a Russian chain four corners weapons match.

(Please embed the following video: http://youtu.be/BuLxH8nxOoI)

The Prophet-Kahagas match is part of a nine match card that takes place at the Fort Lauderdale National Guard Armory, 400 State Road 84, and will kick off WrestleMania 28 weekend.

The rest of the card includes:

NWA World Heavyweight Champion “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce defending his title against a hand-picked challenger from Ring of Honor by legendary NWA manager and current ROH executive James E. Cornette who will be at ringside for the match;

NWA World Tag Team Champions The Dark City Fight Club (Jon Davis & Kory Chavis) facing former WWE and NWA World Tag Team Champs the Headbangers (Mosh & Thrasher) and The Red Devil Fight Team (Mikhail Ivanov & Aleksander Chekov) with manager Brett Adams and “The Russian Bear” Ivan Koloff, in a three-way dance;

Current TNA Superstar and former World TV Champion Robbie E. meeting the ECW Original, Stevie Richards in a special challenge match;

DX’s “Bad Ass” Billy Gunn taking on Vordell Walker in a Grudge Match;

“The Prince of Darkness” Kevin Sullivan & The Vampire Warrior Gangrel (accompanied by Snakemaster Abudadein and the Army of Darkness) versus former TNA star “The VIP” Cassidy Riley & former NWA Florida champ Steve “the Moose” Madison;

Battle of the Belts: Santee vs. Titan Grand Championship Preview

(Fort Lauderdale, FL) – On Thursday, March 29th, the most anticipated Indie super show in years takes place in Fort Lauderdale at the National Guard Armory as NWA Ring Warriors kicks off WrestleMania 28 weekend with “Battle of the Belts.

Of all the matches signed, one of the most discussed within the ranks of Florida-based wrestlers is the NWA Ring Warriors Grand Championship as “The Marquee” Bruce Santee faces the 7-foot 315-pound Giant Titan. The two are the sole survivors of the eight man tournament that began on December 14th with a field that included “The VIP” Cassidy Riley, Steve “Moose” Madison, J.D. Maverick, Vordell Walker, Francisco Ciatso and Wes Brisco.

For Santee, he has been a staple of Florida wrestling for more than 10 years and believes that he is the best wrestler in the state who has not been offered an opportunity to work full time for either TNA Impact or World Wrestling Entertainment.

Titan, on the other hand, has previously competed in TNA and had also been under a WWE developmental contract at Florida Championship Wrestling.

While both men are friends, they have something to prove to themselves, each other and the fans as seen in these interviews conducted by NWA Ring Warriors announcer Dan Masters after their January 18th victories.

While winning the NWA Ring Warriors Grand Championship is a prize in and of itself, as the winner gets bragging rights as the best the state has to offer, the match carries an added level of importance. In addition to scoring a victory on a show that has become high profile, the newly crowned Grand Champion gets an opportunity to be seen on an international stage as he will make his first title defense on March 30th at Ring of Honor’s “Showdown in the Sun – Day 1″ as part of the promotional crossover between the two companies.

At “Battle of the Belts” ROH executive Jim Cornette will be on hand presenting a challenger from the ROH roster to face current NWA World Heavyweight Champion “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce in the main event.

Other matches on the card are:

NWA World Tag Team Champions The Dark City Fight Club (Jon Davis & Kory Chavis) facing former WWE and NWA World Tag Team Champs the Headbangers (Mosh & Thrasher) and The Red Devil Fight Team (Mikhail Ivanov & Aleksander Chekov) with manager Brett Adams and “The Russian Bear” Ivan Koloff, in a three-way dance;

NWA National Heavyweight Champion “The Dark Child” Chance Prophet meeting The Tokyo Monster Kahagas in a Steel Cage Match with the New Heavenly Bodies (“Casanova” Chris Nelson “Vivacious” Vito DeNucci) as special enforcement officials;

The current TNA World TV Champion Robbie E. meeting the ECW Original, Stevie Richards, in a Non-Title Match;

DX’s “Bad Ass” Billy Gunn taking on Vordell Walker in a Grudge Match;

“The Prince of Darkness” Kevin Sullivan & The Vampire Warrior Gangrel (accompanied by Snakemaster Abudadein and the Army of Darkness) versus “The VIP” Cassidy Riley & Steve “the Moose” Madison;

Former TNA stars Jesse Neal & “the Toxic Knockout” Christina Von Eerie versus Chasyn Rance & Santana Garrett in a Mixed Tag Team Match with WWE Hall of Famer Tammy “Sunny” Sytch as a Special Guest Referee.

And self-proclaimed “King of Florida” Francisco Ciatso will face second-generation competitor Wes Brisco, son of WWE HOFer Gerald Brisco.

There will also be special appearances by Tommy Vandal and Pablo Marquez and former AWA World Heavyweight Champion “The Living Legend” Larry Zbyszko, who along with Koloff, will be on hand for autograph and photo opportunities.

Priced at just $20 and $25, tickets for the “Battle of the Belts” card, featuring more than 30 Superstars, Rising Stars and Legends, a portion of which will go to benefit the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation, can be purchased online at http://www.nwaringwarriors.com.

JERRY LAWLER VS TOMMY DREAMER from 3-16-12

NWA Main Event 3/15/12

Match #1 – Chris Norte vs. Eric Hayes
Eric was sporting some orange patchwork pants tonight, showing that, if nothing else, he has a large selection of ring gear. Norte does all the little things you expect a cocky heel to do, and plays well to the crowd. Eric Hayes, well, has patchwork pants tonight. And a series of arm drags so I can get my fill of them. Thanks, Eric. Oh, and probably the worst dropkick in NWA Main Event, at least until J.T. gets out there and tries one.
Eric was just mounting a comeback when Dyron Flynn comes out to beat Eric down. Larry Cooter runs in for the save, and a tag match is made for later tonight.

Match #2 – Triple Threat Match. Jamey Farrari vs. Randy Wickett vs. Johnny Gunn.
Gunn comes out with a valet, a bleach blonde with a lot of back tattoos. Gunn goes to town to start, with a series of clotheslines, and then his own nomination for “Worst Dropkick in Nashville.” The heels respond by double-teaming him and working him over. When Gunn is finally worn down enough to be pinned, Farrari and Wickett fight with each other. Wickett with a nice scoop slam on Farrari for two.
The ending comes with Wickett outside looking in. Gunn grabs Farrari, slams him into Wickett to knock him back down, and then rolls Farrari up on his head for three.

Before intermission, they announce that Jeremy Flynt had to miss tonight due to a family matter, but will be here next week. (I have it on good word that his uncle was attacked by a crippled alligator, presumably while noodling in the Elk River.)

Match #3 – Kevin Kardashian (w/ Victor Van Glorious) vs. Psycho Medic in a Grudge Match.
Big props to Psycho Medic tonight, and I am not his biggest fan, for doing a spot right in the middle of a group of developmentally disabled gentlemen. They loved it and appreciated it. Victor Van Glorious ( a wasted name, I tell you) made his presence known a lot tonight, finally saving Kevin from a beat down by coming into the ring and attacking Psycho Medic with his backgammon case (sorry, that’s what it looks like). Psycho picked up the DQ win, but got beat down for his troubles.
After the match, Psycho asked NWAME security to restrain Victor and Kevin, and called out his daughter Desire` to challenge them next week to a “Loser Leaves in Drag Match”.

Match #4 – Tag Team Match. Dyron Flynn (w/Omar Al Kazan) & Chris Norte vs. Eric Hayes and Larry Cooter.
I came to see Cooter! (I just like shouting that, and I can get away with it a lot more here then when I shout that at Hooters, or Chucky Cheese.)
Cooter is wearing his blue trunks tonight, with Rebel shin pads, and waving the Confederate flag. Eric Hayes looks like Larry the Cable Guy. At least one black young man takes offense and angrily storms out.
Cooter with a series of Titty-Twisters on Flynn early. Then Hayes and finally Guppy, the referee, get in on the action. A lot of good heel double-teaming, with Eric Hayes playing Ricky Morton. Nice spot where Flynn holds Hayes up for a dropkick to the face.
The heels take advantage of the double teaming for the victory.
Match #5 – In the first of a “double main event”, Seven is out with Omar Al Kazan to take on NWAME Champion Nick Iggy.
Even though Iggy asked for this match, he didn’t seem particularly eager to lock up with Seven. Seven just manhandles Iggy for most of the match. Eventually the Elements of Wrestling come down with a chair, and Kaden Sade hits Seven to give him the DQ win. All three faces do top rope moves on a prone Seven, until Jason Nesmith and Shane Steel come out to beat down the Elements of Wrestling.

Match #6 starts with the Elements’ Matt Madison getting beat on by Jason Nesmith. Nesmith and Steel tag frequently to keep the heat on the Elements. David Knox is once again at ringside. Knox has an open invitation to join me in my imaginary commentary booth and vent his feelings, or tell me his favorite stories about Jason Nesmith and transvestites.
The Elements double team Nesmith for a bit, then Sade is stuck in the ring forever while Steel and Nesmith work him over. Sade finally makes the tag, and the elements start dishing it back out to Steel, while Nesmith and Knox have a discussion at the concession stand while Knox grabs some snacks. Steel is in disbelief that Nesmith would abandon him during a match, and gets rolled up for a pin.

After the match, Nesmith takes the mic and throws an absolute tantrum calling for David Knox. (I think Knox took Nesmith’s car keys and left.)

Overall thoughts – I really don’t understand why even a casual wrestling fan would not be out here for $4. You get six or seven matches, that’s less then a dollar a match, and yeah, some of the guys are, well, a little rough, but some of these guys can really bring it.

Top of the Pops
1. Nick Iggy
2. Larry Cooter
3. Psycho Medic (there were a lot of Juggalo fans in the crowd tonight. I guess they finally came back after healing from the Family getting released? But they were happy to see Psycho Medic.)
4. Seven. Yeah, he gets a lot of cheers, despite everything.
5. I guess I’ll give this to the Elements of Wrestling.

Feeling the Heat
1. Kevin Kardashian. Once again, the crowd was on him from entrance to exit. Victor Van Glorious riles up the crowd too.
2. Jason Nesmith. This man is the local version of Curt Hennig. Until you watch him and the little things he does, you don’t appreciate how good he is.
3. Dyron Flynn. What I said for Nesmith goes double for Flynn. If Flynn was 6’5” he’s be in Florida by now.
4. Seven. He is just physically so superior to most everyone else on the roster.
5. Jamie Farrari and Randy Wickett

Rebuilding a renaissance
NWA World Heavyweight Championship returns to St. Louis
By Kari Williams

When NWA Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce battles “The Tokyo Monster” Kahagas in St. Louis, it will be more than a championship match – it will be the continuance of a renaissance. “My personal belief is the NWA world title is the godfather to all wrestling championships in the United States… It’s an honor to come back to one of the greatest hubs [in the country to defend the title],” Pearce said. Pearce’s championship defense will be the first in St. Louis in approximately 20 years, which Pearce said forces him to want to raise the bar But former “Wrestling at the Chase” commentator Larry Matysik, the NWA Heavyweight Championship returning to St. Louis is about more than a single match – it’s a homecoming. “The NWA was technically born in Iowa where [various promoters across the country] had a meeting. [‘Wrestling at the Chase’ promoter] Sam Muchnick… [was] one of the main people giving birth to the national wrestling idea and putting people together,” Matysik said. “St. Louis very quickly became home of the NWA because Sam was chosen as president of the organization, and the champion was booked out of St. Louis.” St. Louis and the NWA were synonymous from the late 1940s to the early 1980s for both wrestling fans and those in the business, according to Matysik. Pearce said being the one to defend the championship in St. Louis is an honor – and humbling. “I’ve had a few of these [types of matches] come up in the last six months… Just this past week, I got back from Australia and it had been 33 years [since the title was defended there]. Harley Race was the last champion to go,” Pearce said. Pearce, currently on his fourth reign as NWA World Heavyweight Champion, said he has devoted his career to the belt. “I’ve worked really hard personally to restore some of the luster to this championship… I’ve dedicated my career to the National Wrestling Alliance World Heavyweight Championship,” Pearce said.

St. Louis Match & Restoring Meaning to the Belt

Pearce’s challenger for the belt, “The Tokyo Monster” Kahagas is what Pearce calls a “tremendous competitor.” Kahagas has traveled the country, from the Midwest to Florida and Texas and is a former High Voltage Wrestling – Midwest Heavyweight Champion. “He’s definitely somebody in the last six months who has gotten his name out there… I admire him for that,” Pearce said.
Pearce said he has devoted his wrestling life to NWA belt and his goal is to make the letters N-W-A “mean something again on a much larger level.” “I will always – until I take my last breath – feel the NWA World Heavyweight Championship is the most prestigious championship in all of pro wrestling… Today, in my fourth reign as in my first reign, I am as humbled as I always have been…,” Pearce said. Seeing the NWA championship defended at a local promotion is a chance for the NWA to show off its champion around the world, Matysik said. “I think wrestling more than anything right now desperately needs a place for young talent to get a place to grow, just aren’t enough places… To see the NWA champion on a program is going to be something really special,” Matysik said. Matysik said he thinks it is important for independent promotions to find a way to be strong and having the NWA champion on the show could help. “If the NWA, in latest incarnation, can do that that’s wonderful,” Matysik said. “The business desperately needs it.”

History of the NWA Championship in St. Louis

Matysik said the original dream of those who started the NWA was for there to be one, recognizable champion. However, it never “really became a one-champion situation.” “There were numerous reasons for that, but because their champion, the NWA champion, did wrestle in so many different areas… [he covered a] much larger area where one person is recognized as the champion,” Matysik said. “As wrestling magazines gained power in the ’60s and ’70s, they recognized the NWA title as more or less the real title.” Through the efforts of Sam Muchnick and Ray Gillespie, Matysik said a line of succession for the NWA championship was traced back to the 1900s with Frank Gotch and George Hackenschmidt. “There was research; there were facts… and they kind of looked at that champion as the champion,” Matysick said. Additionally, Muchnick built everything around the championship in St. Louis, according to Matysik. “[It] all revolved around who was the world champ, who was going to fight for the world championship… He made the championship even more important in St. Louis than it was anywhere else,” Matysik said. Matysik said, in all likelihood, Ric Flair was the last person to defend the belt in St. Louis. Pearce, who remembers watching tapes of Flair’s title defenses when the current champ was first breaking into the wrestling business, said he is most looking forward to “bringing [the belt] home.” “There’s a renaissance going on with NWA world title. Whether I want to call it my calling [or not], it’s really been something extremely important to me to bring this championship to as many place as I can,” Pearce said.
