ROUGH CUTS: THE SMACKDOWN SPECIAL EDITION

Posted August 31st, 2011 by 1Wrestling News Team

This is Sal LaSardo, Jr and welcome to another edition of Rough Cuts as Smack Down came to us live with stellar card that featured stars of both Raw and Smack Down…It amazes how somethings just never change…

The show started Cena trying to fire up the crowd and get the this party started…If he wanted to start a party they should have had Hamerrin Hank Williams do his Monday Night Football theme on Smack Down…Now that would have gotten me fired up…

Wade Barrett came out and thought he was going to show Cena who his daddy really was…Yea, ok…Cena owned Barrett before Cena was about to own him again…In a match that lasted less than 5 minutes Cena showed Barrett somethings never change…Barrett is pinned 1-2-3 right in the middle of the ring very little offense…You would think after all there battles Wade and Cena could have done better especially since this was billed as a double main event and they opened the show…Cena looked ready for Del Rio…

Daniel Bryan continued to show somethings never change in his match against Sin Cara…Seems to me that the money in the bank winner is been more like a loser of late…Way too many loses for someone expected to challenge for a title match at some point…Both men locked well, as both are high flying technical wrestlers…Sin Cara has more acrobatic moves but still Daniel was not expected to be push over…What happened to the man with all the hype? Sin Cara looked like he owned Daniel tonight with a various display moves off the ropes…In the end Daniel gets a double moonsault not once but twice and is pinned 1-2-3…Sin Cara wants to extend a hand in sportsmanship but wait….change….Cara nails Daniel and proceeds to finish him off even more…Sin Cara has now turned heel…I hope Cara knocked some sense into Daniel Bryan for all the losses he suffered since winning the money in the bank…I do believe now that Cara has turned heel we can see Rey Mysterio against Sin Cara upcoming and that should be the match everyone wants to see…I expect at some point that someone is going to force Daniel to put his MITB shot on the line and call him on it because you can not have a wrestler continuing to lose night in and night out expect to get a title shot at the next WrestleMania…

Sheamus looked ready for a fight tonight and how the mighty have fallen..Remember when the Great Khali was actually considered to be “Great”?…Remember when Khali was fighting the Undertaker in a Punjabi Prison match? Now the not so great Khali has fallen like the Roman Empire….Khali has been dethroned from greatness to just a jobber…very sad…however, kudo’s to Sheamus fortifying his win last night on Raw with Cena and giving Khali a solid beatdown…The fans, and I myself included are liking the new Sheamus as he seems to have more pop in his game…I like it…

HHH and CM Punk needed to waste 20 more minutes of actual wrestling time with there contract signing…I understand you need to hype a match but there was no need to waste talk about things we already know…how somethings never change…we heard it all before…same things said in different words…you would have thought Stephanie would have come out and put her 2 cents in…but instead we get Kevin Nash again…same as the night before on RAW…There were some funny moments but seriously this was a rare occassion for SmackDown to be live and should have been kept to wrestling…they could have done the contract signing on the next RAW….

Kelly Kelly proved once again that even though she has the belt that somethings just never change…She brings Alicia Fox in to help against Beth and Natalya…Yea there is a partner for you….Kelly could not hold her own and left Alicia Fox to be like humpty dumpty…just one big fall for a 1-2-3 for the Legion of Diva’s…Beth Phoenix and Natalya are just in a class of their own…Kelly days are so numbered as champion that at least there will be change…

Allot hype went into the main event between R K O and Christian for there steel cage match…The fans voted 85% in favor of R K O that he had the advantage…I thought it be lower because don’t forget Christian is a seasoned veteran and he has been in allot gimmick type matches before…I did expect Christian to at least put up a much better battle than he did on RAW last night…The show left us for about 25 minutes for this match and that was a good thing…This is a main event on a rare Tuesday inside a steel cage…Christian looked ready to run more than fight early on as he tried every means possible to escape…remember your dealing with Viper and escape is no easy task…Both men locked up fairly well and used the cage to there advantage…I was a bit surprised that there was no blood from either combatant considering this is a title match and an ongoing feud…never the less both Christian and Randy went back and forth with Randy trying to pin and Christian trying to escape…Every time I see Randy deliver his R K O its gets more and more devastating to watch…This time off the top rope Randy R K O’s Christian for the 1-2-3…Absolutely amazing to see…This was a good match for free television despite two commercial breaks…but it was not as good as there Summerslam match…

Mark Henry wanted to send a message to the Viper by coming into the cage and delivering some serious Smackdown on the Champion…I know going into the Night of Champions Henry needed to send a message and he sure did as one vicious blow into the cage after another…Randy just looked exhausted and winded from the match and Henry…Here is the thing though…If I am Daniel Bryan and I am on this horrendous losing streak then wouldn’t you want to cash in your MITB and become Champion? You may never get another opportunity like this…Bryan and Henry at the next ppv and Randy gets the winner in a rematch clause? Seriously, Daniel you dropped the ball here…I be in that ring pinning Randy 1-2-3 if I was in your boots…

Overall, I give this show 4 stars out of 5 tonight…Better than Raw last night…There was more action tonight and kudo’s for allowing more time for the main event…Again, I felt the contract signing should have been saved for RAW…as somethings never change…nothing new happened…Kelly Kelly is just about to lose this belt and its time….Sin Cara turning heel is good and sets up some matches against Rey Mysterio…Sheamus is a proud face and elevating himself….The cage match was good but not equal to SummerSlam but still good for free television…Good show I am glad I stayed home and watched it…This would be nice every so often to see Smack Down live on Tuesday’s, maybe before or just after a ppv would be ideal to keep the storylines going and to continue where RAW leaves off rather than have us wait till Friday…

On a side note…for all you Tennis fans out there..The US Open is in high gear right now for the next two weeks…To me this is the best two weeks in all of tennis…I watch more tennis during this US Open than any other time of the year…There is something about the US Open that brings the best in all of us out…It also doesn’t hurt I am originally from Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, NY…This year it seems very wide open on the women’s draw…I do not expect either Williams sisters to be there in the end because Serena has been injured and has looked good coming back but the grueling two weeks will take its toll on her..Venus is no longer the same either and they both will drop by the Quarters…I am liking Maria Sharapova coming back into form, Caroline Wozniacki has allot to prove and its time she showed her # 1 ranking is legit as there are allot of skeptics out there…It goes with the territory…My pick is a sleeper Jelena Jankovic is going to get the job done this time..I am liking her summer and she is getting herself in a grove once again…She lost a tough match to Sharapova before this tournament began but I believe it only helped her…This is NY and a much different stage…Also, look out for Ana Ivanoic to go deep as well, not much been said about her this year and a good showing here goes a long way…She is due like Jelena and maybe now is the time..As far as the men is concerned the Great Roger Federer has one more major in him at least and I believe he gets ths job done here in NY…He is such a class act on and off the court that whomever he faces in the final is sure to be a thriller for the ages…Look for Mardy Fish of the USA to go deep into this tournament and expect Andy Roddick to fall before the round of 16…Djokovic is having a year for the record books but this is the US Open mind you and I need to see it before I believe it…His record is impressive but winning the US Open will solidify his number 1 ranking and carry him onward into 2012…Nadal is looking to defend his title on his worst surface…It can not be that bad he is winning on hard courts now…Seriously, Roger will find a way as he knows time is running out and needs to make the most of the few opportunities remanining in his Hall of Fame career…

This has been Sal LaSardo Jr for Rough Cuts and one thing for certain that will never change is my articles for all you great fans out there…Till next time my friends may all of your matches be a main event…Your feedback is greatly appreciated to slasardojr@yahoo.com…

This was actually a good show. Now please, please, please, get rid of the branding, unify the two world titles, unify the US & IC titles, and change the name from WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) to something with relevance like WWA (World Wrestling Association) or bring it back to WWWF (World Wide Wrestling Federation). Just bring it back to the way things used to be.

P.S. oh yeah, and stop having a PPV once a month. stick to your “Big 4″ Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam, and Survivor Series.
