The “Universal Hearthrob” Austin Idol first started his illustrious Pro Wrestling career in 1972 and retired or at least we think he retired in 1993. Who really knows, look at Bret Favre? Idol is currently the National Spokesperson for Ankle Armour who has developed and introduced the versatile and convenient ankle pocket strap. Here are the websites for Austin Idol and Ankle Armour:
It warms the cockles of my heart Dahl’n to have a featured column on the prestigious website 1wrestling.com who incidentally is the leading resource of all things Pro Wrestling and so much more. Being this is my first of what is highly anticipated to be many columns in the future, I wanted to start out with an “Explosive” article!
When was the last time you were sitting in the front seat of a small plane as it was spiraling down into the cold, murky, pitch black waters of Tampa Bay located off Davis Islands where the New York Yankee captain Derek Jeter is building his mega-mansion? I’m guessing most of you answered never right? Remember the movie Dead Man Walking? Well, Austin Idol is Almost Dead Man Talking! It happened tom me.
Baby, you talk about a game changing experience, just survive one of these and you’ll know the true meaning of everyday is a holiday! Pro Wrestling is so much like real life. The bell rings to start a match and it rings again at the conclusion.
Way back in 1970 yours truly was a youngster weighing around 275 lbs, bench pressing 500 lbs. and ready to take on the world. Back then a 500 lb. bench was pretty significant and there weren’t that many dudes out there doing this especially if you weren’t on the gas! Through an interesting set of circumstances which will be detailed when The “Austin Idol” Story is eventually finished and published into book form you’ll get the whole low down on what ignited the eventual career of Austin Idol! Man do I have some stories to tell you and you’ll get’m right here so be sure to check in every week. If you have a direct question give me a shout on my website or leave a comment here.
I can tell you this. As a mere babe arriving in the Big Apple where I first met Bill Apter and so many others it was one of the most memorable times of my life. 1973, Madison Square Garden, “The Captain and guiding light” Lou Albano rest his soul who eventually became my manager, “The Grand Wizard” Ernie Roth, ‘Classy” Freddie Blassie, Fuji and Tanaka, Gorilla Monsoon, “Moondog” Lonnie Mayne, Andre “The Giant”, George “The Animal” Steel, King Curtis Iaukea, and there’s many more! Think about these names for a second? Now ask yourself, with this cast of characters and remarkable talented athletes, do you believe Austin Idol has a story or two to tell? As my old friend Isaac Hayes said in his song the theme from Shaft, “You’re Damn Right”!
Now hopefully you have a thumbnail of what the future holds in my column. I suggest you do a mass e-blast to all your contacts and give all of them a heads up!
In closing Ankle Armour is reaching out in support of Autism Awareness with their new Strength Ignited wrist bands. Go to the Ankle Armour website CLICK HERE and you’ll find these great looking wristbands that promote a most worthy cause. Ankle Armour, “Just Wear It”! See everyone next week!
