NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood February 4 report

by Jay Cal

We start this week of NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood with a chorus of boos. And when the camera pans to the entry way, we find out just why. The resident groin kicker Ray Rosas is back in Hollywood. If you remember the last time Rosas was on TV, he and Famous B had a tremendous back and forth match that ultimately saw B take the victory. Unfortunately, B also took a kick to the extremely low midsection post match. Rosas this week is teaming with Lucha Machine. The duo has teamed outside of Hollywood for a while. They are taking on the undefeated; Stu Stone glossed “Young Hollywood,” Brandon Parker and Todd Chandler. Brandon and Parker started off as cannon fodder for the Tribe but have put together a series of solid victories and have yet to be defeated in Hollywood.

Chandler and Parker use a lot of innovative tag team maneuvers, which is probably why the crowd reacts to them so well. Lucha Machine and Rosas look for ways to take advantage of the referee’s distractions. Rosas keeps Chandler mostly grounded, which is probably the best way to beat Parker and Chander. Rosas tags in Lucha and Chandler makes a blind tag to Parker, who crushes the face of Lucha Machine with a dropkick. Rosas charges into the ring and gets caught between Parker and Chandler who chop Rosas back and forth. Rosas and Lucha Machine take over when Machine manages to toss Chandler out of the ring, hoists up Parker with a fireman’s carry and then Rosas connects with a Mafia Kick to the face of Parker. Chandler manages to stop the referee before making his third count. The comeback for Rosas and the Machine is short lived. Chandler parks Lucha Machine in the tree of woe and Parker delivers the dreaded deadly double foot stomp for the victory. And even a mouth full of blood can’t stop Parker from Smiling. Rosas continues his post match shenanigans, by punting the groin of Lucha Machine. What a rough night for Lucha Machine.

I enjoyed this match. A perfect opening to get the crowd ready for the show, as it was both fast paced and it got the fans on their feet. Both teams looked evenly matched, which made the victory for Parker and Chandler that much more important as they don’t have too many wins against established tag teams.

Up next is a promo with Kaos. Jeff Resnick always seems to get stuck with Joey Kaos. Kaos has had his problems with Willie Mack for quite some time. With the Standard causing problems for Joey Ryan, Scorpio Sky, Colt Cabana, and Willie Mack the foursome came together in this decade’s version of the Dudes with Attitude. Mack has become the main rival to Joey Kaos. And the showdown between Kaos and Mack happens next week. Kaos delivers a couple of clichés before telling Mack that he’s going to be Kaostified. Not sure what Kaostified means, but judging by his deep breath after, I don’t want anything to do with it. Kaos is a pro; his match with Mack will be good.

Peter Avalon enters the ring with a chorus of boos. Avalon, as part of the Standard has seen his stock rise in the NWA. Outside of his lose in the Texas Tornado Tag Team Match with Kaos against Joey Ryan and Willie Mack, Avalon has been on a bit of a winning streak. One thing is for certain of NWA Hollywood, is that the faces and heels are well defined, there is little to no gray area. Avalon’s opponent is Andrew Hellman. Hellman can’t seem to put an end to his problems with Cedric the Hitman. Starting off in Anaheim and now all the way in Hollywood, these two have bad blood.

The match stars with Avalon shewing off Hellman, before getting down to do some clapping push-ups and then slowly but surely collapsing on the mat. Although he fancies himself as the biggest man in the NWA and often refers to himself as NWAvalon, Hellman simply over powers him. Avalon, ever the cheap shot artist, takes advantage of Andrew Hellman’s running into the turnbuckle. “Pretty” Peter is quick to lay the boots into Hellman and continue to works the ribs of Hellman. It’s the little things Avalon does that makes him fun to watch, as Avalon has Hellman in a version of the abdominal stretch, he works the elbow back into the ribs. Hellman is able to connect with a powerslam out of no where, but unable to capitalize clinching his ribs. Hellman begins to mount a comeback, but is involved with a collision with the ref. Cedric the Hitman comes out and delivers a briefcase shot to the ribs of Hellman. Of course the referee isn’t aware of this because he is too busy attempting to recoup from the collision. Avalon finishes off Hellman and the referee is able to count the three. As the referee checks on Hellman who is still down, Cedric comes in to finish off the job. That brings out Famous B, who returns the favor from a few weeks ago. Famous B snatches the briefcase before trying to hit the Hitman with it.

NWA Hollywood might just be using the buddy cop flick premise in Hollywood. First Rasche Brown and Slymn partner up and now it looks like Andrew Hellman and Famous B are following suit. I can see the promos now… He’s the plucky yet powerful Metal Head, Andrew Hellman. He’s the highflying, death-defying styling and profiling Famous B. Together they are… well, I’ll leave that up to Hollywood.

Next up is the Lethal Ladies of NWA Hollywood. Buggy has a couple of victories over Lucky O’Shea. This hasn’t sat well with O’Shea who has brought Tab Jackson in, to help squash Buggy. Buggy has countered with Thunder Kitty. Buggy goes after O’Shea right away like she owes her money. You know this one isn’t going to be pretty. The match ends with Lucky caught up in the ropes and Buggy connects with a bulldog on Tab Jackson. Mikey carries his big sister to the back as Thunder Kitty and Buggy celebrate.

Another nice thing about NWA Hollywood is that they make themselves available to charities. This week it’s with Life Group LA, a local charity that educates and supports people who are HIV-positive and their families. To donate or volunteer please visit The Life Group LA (

Up next is a Joey Ryan in the back. Hollywood’s Own looks more like Anaheim’s Own sporting his Angels Hat and a clean shaven face. Seeing Joey Ryan clean shaven reminds me of his career before he became sleazy. You can tell Ryan is a little heart broken about coming up short against Pearce last week. He knows that Aries is being used, because Pearce used to use him. Ryan was surprised by how Pearce kept his title last week.

The last time we saw Colt Cabana, he was being helped to his feet by special rescue paramedics and being dropped through a table by the NWA Worlds Champion, Adam Pearce. Colt is in Chicago rehabilitating from his injuries, speaking via satellite. Colt didn’t think Adam had it in him, but he should have known that he’d do anything to keep that championship. Doctors advise Colt to stay away from in-ring action for 1-2 months. Colt doesn’t know if he’s going to listen. Pretty good interview, good explanation as to why Colt hasn’t been seen on TV in a few weeks. I hope to see Colt back sooner than later. Colt is determined to be back.

David Marquez tosses it over to Jonny Loquasto, who is standing by with “Milk Chocolate” Willie Mack. Mack has kind of been the enforcer of the Anti-Standard group in the NWA. First forcing Claudio Castagnoli out of the NWA, neutralizing Peter Avalon in the battle of the Joeys and now sinking his teeth into the “Rock Superstar” Mack says he and Joey Ryan are going to put down the Standard, one by one. Mack says he used to look up to Kaos when he was a kid, but as Kaos gets older, he doesn’t choose the best people to surround himself with. A pretty good promo from Mack, I think the pairing of Kaos and Mack will work out very well in the ring.

Now we have the main event. The crowd begrudgingly cheers Austin Aries almost to the point where it splits the crowd down the middle. People might hate Austin Aries, but they have to respect his resume and his pure wrestling ability in the ring. Scorpio Sky has the respect and admiration from the crowd. These two put on a pretty good match a couple of weeks back. I’ve followed both of these men’s careers through out the years and I can honestly say that right now in 2011, they are the best they have ever been. Scorpio Sky leads the series challenge with Austin Aries 1-0. With the crowd solidly behind Sky, Aries manages to reverse the arm lock with a kip up and a reversal. Everything Aries does is crisp and fast. One of the best looking shots in NWA Hollywood is when they get their man in the corner and deliver the ten shows, makes you feel like your right in the action. Aries has been after Sky ever since debuting in the NWA. Regardless of whether he saw Sky as a legitimate threat to Pearce or just didn’t care for his familiarity, Aries has made sure to get the attention of Scorpio Sky. First attacking him back stage from behind, then goating him into attacks during interview segments. The first time Sky got his hands on Aries was in the big 8-man tag from late last year. Sky’s victory against Aries set up this Best of Series Challenge and although Sky won last week, both men looked worse for wear after the match.

Both of these men are going back and forth in the ring. It’s hard to make a decision on which the better man is, the advantage switches hands very quickly. Sky has definitely been more aggressive in the ring lately. Chasing Aries outside of the ring, Sky has maintained momentum in this match with the collective fanbase cheering his name. For the second time in the match, I noticed Sky’s knee give out on him, this time avoiding Aries’ attack in the corner. Although Aries is able to stay on top of Aries, you can see where his issue with his knee might come back to haunt him. Aries leaps on the top turnbuckle; back flips on to his feet and meets Sky with a roaring elbow that nearly takes of Sky’s head. Sky falls to the outside apron; Aries pulls him up by that bum leg and snaps it over the ropes. After knocking Sky to the ring side floor, Aries pounces on the top rope again and delivers a flying forearm to Sky that sends him to the mat. And as long as it takes for you to blink your eyes, “A-Double” is already back, in the ring celebrating his dismantling of the “King of Sting.” Aries sends Sky back into the ring and continues dissecting Scorpio. A weird audio snafu takes place that obviously gets the attention of both wrestlers. After boxing the ears of Scorpio Sky, Aries pauses to fire the sound guy. Sky is full of fight and every opportunity to mount a comeback, results in Aries finding another way to add damage to that injured knee. And just as I type that, Scorpio Sky manages to duck a charging Austin Aries who goes over the top rope (avoiding a dq), Sky leaps over the top on to Aries. And just like that the momentum has changed in favor of Scorpio Sky. Sky brings Aries into the ring after slamming his face into the mat and goes for a cover, but only good for a two count. Aries manages to thrust Sky into the air with a brainbuster, only for Sky to come down safely and reverse it into a release german suplex. Austin is in trouble. Sky is unable to capitalize with his bum knee and both men struggle to their feet. Aries up first gives chase to Sky in the corner, who leaps to the send rope and connects with a spring board splash for a two count. Sky goes for his finisher; Aries reverses it into an atomic drop on the bad knee; that Sky manages to reverse into a “knee bar.” Aries struggles to get to the ropes to breaks the count. A frustrated Aries shoots Sky into the corner and dropkicks his face off; Aries follows it up with a brainbuster that gets a two count. Aries synched in the Figure-8 and now it’s a matter how much will power Sky has. Through sheer determination and the fans solidly behind Sky, he fights through Aries Figure-8 and breaks the hold. Sky looks completely immobile. After toying with Sky, Aries locks the Figure-8 back in on Sky and the referee calls the match. Aries continue with the punishment to Sky’s knee, Joey Ryan makes the save. The series is tied 1-1 and Sky looks injured.

Next week promises to showcase the Huge Valentine’s Day Battle Royal. And until then, thanks for reading. To keep up with the NWA, please check out

With the new year, new changes will be coming to NWA Dakota Pro Wrestling. We will be seeing new athletes debuting in NWA Dakota Pro Wrestling in the coming months. The Board of Directors for NWA Dakota Pro Wrestling have also decided to create a Board Representative position that will be present at each event going forward. The person in this position will represent the Board of Directors and implement all Dakota Pro Wrestling policies and procedures. This individual will have complete control in assessing penalties and fines to athletes who are found guilty of breaking any Dakota Pro Wrestling rules or procedures as well as other duties. The board is currently looking at several individuals to fill this position and an announcement will come shortly.

DPW is currently in talks with several online and broadcast outlets for a television product that will feature the exciting action here in Dakota Pro Wrestling. More news will be announced in the upcoming months.
